Major Responsibilities:Performs clerical functions on the patient care unit and/or other patient care areas as assignedAssembles patient recordsFiles and documents patient information, i.e. Laboratory and X-ray reportsKeeps records up-to date, in order and supplied with appropriate formsTranscribes physician orders accurately and timelyInitiates orders via order entry system accurately and timelyFacilitates effective communication and coordinates unit activitiesAnswers telephone appropriately and courteouslyTakes and relays messages in a timely mannerPlaces calls as requested to physicians, and other professional or ancillary servicesGreets and directs visitors, physician, and staff from other departmentsOpens, sorts and routes mail accurately and in a timely mannerOrders, receives and stocks required inventory of stationary and forms (linen, sterile supplies; food and kitchen supplies as requested)Assists the manager by performing administrative duties as requestedII. Position Qualifications:License/Certification/Education: Required: High School diploma/GEDPreferred: Medical Assistant certification preferred, Classes in medical terminology preferredExperience/Skills: Required: Computer skills required, Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, Demonstrated prioritization and organizational skills, Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions OR equivalent combination of the abovePreferred: Experience in a hospital or health care setting preferred, Experience with Meditech computer system preferredUnless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments.
