Responsibilities The chaplain provides spiritual counsel, comfort and pastoral ministry to the spiritual needs of patients and families as assigned. This individual provides a pastoral perspective when consulting with staff, patients and families regarding ethical, moral or personal issues. The chaplain is skilled in crisis and bereavement counseling and is an active participant in an interdisciplinary patient care team. This individual promotes a healing environment enhancing spiritual and mental health for both patients and staff. The chaplain’s duties include providing sacraments/rituals from many faith traditions of patients, relatives and staff as requested. May require being an Independent Living Donor Advocate (ILDA) after the conclusion of training. This person may serve in advance care planning role after training. This individual must demonstrate cultural knowledge and knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the lifespan. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient’s age‑specific needs is required. In addition, the chaplain supports leadership through activities that include development of staff, teaching, community involvement, and participation in research as appropriate. Must be available to work flexible hours which can include days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends with on‑call required. Qualifications Master’s Theological degree (e.g., Master of Divinity). Preferred: Master in Public Health/PhD in related fields such as philosophy, religion, ethics, or spiritual care research. Minimum of four units Clinical Pastoral Education from an ACPE approved center. Applicants who are current ACPE Residents with three completed units must complete the fourth unit within 1 year of hire. Preferred: 1–2 years working experience in a healthcare setting. Faith‑specific Chaplain requirements: Bachelor’s degree in theological/related field (Preferred: Master’s or PhD). Minimum of one unit of CPE from an ACPE‑approved program (four units preferred). Faith‑specific chaplains expected to serve the spiritual care needs of other patients must complete four ACPE units and become Board Certified within four years of hire. Endorsement for service as a chaplain by an appropriate faith community required within 1 year of hire. Board Certification or certification‑eligible (BCC) within one or more of the following associations: APC, NACC/USCCB, ACPE, or AJC. Board‑Certified chaplain preferred; otherwise certification within 4 years with a national association requiring a minimum of four units of ACPE education. Unrestricted, unexpired driver’s license required for chaplains whose assignments require travel. Strong verbal and written communication skills, including computer skills. 1 year of EMR documentation experience in a healthcare setting. Schedule Part‑time, approximately 24 hours per week, including Thursdays and Saturdays. Availability required on flexible days, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends with on‑call as needed. Compensation $30.54 – $45.87 per hour.
