Registered Nurse – PACU | Sacramento, CA | 13 Weeks Contract

The PACU is where patients wake up, recover, and get their first moments of post-operative care. It takes a sharp clinical eye, steady judgment, and plenty of compassion to make those moments safe and comfortable.

We’re seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – PACU to join a dedicated perioperative team in Sacramento, CA. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and know how to keep a close eye on patients coming out of anesthesia, this could be your next great assignment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide specialized post-anesthesia nursing care to patients recovering from surgical and procedural interventions
• Perform comprehensive assessments of patients emerging from anesthesia, including airway, respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and pain status
• Continuously monitor vital signs, oxygen saturation, cardiac rhythm, level of consciousness, and other relevant clinical indicators
• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition and post-anesthesia complications
• Manage airways and provide oxygen therapy and respiratory support as clinically indicated
• Administer medications, IV fluids, pain management therapies, and other treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols
• Monitor patients for complications such as bleeding, respiratory depression, nausea, hypotension, arrhythmias, and adverse medication reactions
• Assess and manage post-operative pain and nausea while evaluating the effectiveness of interventions
• Maintain accurate post-anesthesia documentation and recovery records in the EMR
• Communicate patient status and recovery progress with surgeons, anesthesiologists, CRNAs, and other members of the perioperative team
• Determine patient readiness for transfer or discharge according to established PACU criteria and facility protocols
• Provide patients and families with appropriate post-operative education and discharge instructions
• Assist with emergency interventions and rapid response situations when required
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized recovery environment
• Follow infection prevention, medication safety, HIPAA, and patient safety standards

Qualifications

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License
• Minimum 2 years of recent PACU/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit experience
• Current BLS Certification required
• Current ACLS Certification required
• PALS Certification preferred or required by facility
• Strong knowledge of post-anesthesia assessment and recovery
• Experience with airway management, cardiac monitoring, pain management, and emergency interventions
• Strong understanding of anesthesia-related complications and post-operative care
• Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR)
• Excellent clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and assessment skills
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced perioperative environment
