In this position, you will be responsible for leading and supervising survey crews, utilizing advanced technologies such as drones and GPS scanning to gather precise data. Key facts Location: Grand Island, NE; Holdrege, NE; Kearney, NE Engagement: Full-time What you'll do Develop and nurture strong relationships with clients to ensure their needs are met and expectations are exceeded throughout the surveying process. Supervise and lead survey crews, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to ensure high-quality work and adherence to safety standards. Manage all phases of surveying projects, from initial planning and data collection to final deliverables, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Oversee the use of advanced surveying technologies, including GPS, drones, and other equipment, to gather accurate spatial data. Prepare detailed project estimates, proposals, and budgets, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and accuracy. Monitor project profitability, controlling costs and managing resources effectively to maximize efficiency. Review survey data, maps, and drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project specifications and standards. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure project objectives are met and deliverables are aligned with expectations. Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including field notes, data logs, and reports, to ensure traceability and quality control. Ensure all fieldwork complies with safety protocols and company policies, promoting a safe working environment for all team members. Conduct site visits and inspections, utilizing company vehicles and equipment, to oversee field operations and troubleshoot issues as they arise. Stay current with industry standards, new technologies, and best practices in land surveying to continually improve service quality. Assist in training and onboarding new team members, sharing your expertise to foster a knowledgeable and skilled workforce. Participate in business development efforts by supporting proposals and presentations to potential clients. Maintain professional licensure and stay updated on licensing requirements and continuing education. Collaborate with other departments within Olsson to support multidisciplinary projects and ensure seamless project execution. Requirements A minimum of 8 years of land surveying experience, including extensive work in boundary, ALTA, topographic, property, and right-of-way surveys. Valid Land Surveyor license issued by the appropriate licensing authority. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Trimble Business Center software for data processing and drafting. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience supervising survey crews and junior staff. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively liaise with clients, team members, and stakeholders. Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively. Knowledge of safety standards and protocols relevant to land surveying and fieldwork. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrains. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Valid driver's license and ability to operate company vehicles safely. Familiarity with project management principles and practices is preferred. Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality and safety in all work activities. Nice to have Experience with advanced surveying technologies such as drone mapping, LiDAR, or GPS scanning. Additional certifications related to surveying, GIS, or geospatial technologies. Knowledge of local land use regulations and permitting processes. Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or development projects. Familiarity with environmental regulations and considerations relevant to surveying work. Skills & tools GPS technology and surveying equipment, including total stations and data collectors. Drones and aerial mapping tools for topographic and site surveys. AutoCAD and Trimble Business Center software for data processing, drafting, and analysis. Strong understanding of geospatial data management and mapping principles. Ability to operate and troubleshoot field equipment efficiently. Knowledge of safety equipment and protocols for field operations. Practical notes This position involves on-site work at various project locations, requiring travel and outdoor activity. A company vehicle will be provided for site visits and fieldwork. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety vests, helmets, and eyewear, will be supplied and must be worn during field operations. Reimbursement is available for prescription safety eyewear and work boots to support safety compliance. A company-issued laptop will be provided for data processing, reporting, and communication needs. Cell phone reimbursement options are available to support communication with clients and team members. The role requires adherence to all safety standards, including OSHA regulations, and a proactive approach to maintaining a safe work environment. Candidates should be prepared to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
