Machinist

This role focuses on operating CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to produce precision parts that meet exact customer specifications and internal production standards. You set up machines, perform tooling changes, make program edits, and verify part quality using precision measuring tools in a job shop environment where individual, complex parts may take days to complete.

Responsibilities

• Operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture high-precision parts according to customer specifications and production standards.
• Set up CNC machines, including installing and adjusting tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices for each job.
• Perform tooling changes and changeovers efficiently to support varying part requirements in a job shop environment.
• Edit and adjust CNC programs using G and M codes to ensure proper machine operation, part accuracy, and process optimization.
• Read and interpret engineering blueprints and drawings to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments to inspect parts and verify conformance to tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches.
• Maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes on complex parts, ensuring consistent quality throughout the machining process.
• Work in a job shop setting, focusing on low-volume, high-complexity parts that may require several days to complete rather than high-volume production runs.
• Perform machine setup and adjustments on various equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and press brakes as needed.
• Apply GD&T principles when inspecting and machining parts to meet detailed geometric requirements.
• Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and make necessary mechanical and programming adjustments to maintain productivity and quality.
• Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
• Lift and move materials and parts up to 50 pounds as part of daily machining and setup activities.
• Collaborate with a flexible, growth-oriented team to solve machining challenges and continuously improve processes.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience setting up CNC machines, including tooling changes and changeovers.
• Ability to perform program edits using G and M codes directly at the machine control.
• Proficiency using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Job shop machining experience, focusing on low-volume, complex parts rather than high-volume production machining.
• Capability to hold tight tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches on machined components.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of regular job duties.
• Experience with machine setup and operation on equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and press brakes.
• Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for inspecting and machining parts.
• Basic programming and mechanical troubleshooting skills related to CNC equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with MasterCAM or SolidWorks for programming or working with CAD/CAM data.
• Operating both mill and lathe machines in a CNC environment.
• Familiarity with Haas machines and controls.
• Experience with grinding machines and related precision grinding processes.
• Comfort working across different shifts, including 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.
• Openness to voluntary overtime on weekends when available.
• Interest in contributing to a collaborative team within a growing manufacturing operation.

Work Environment

You work in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment designed for comfort and safety. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift (7:00 a.m.3:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:30 p.m.11:00 p.m.) with a 15% shift differential, and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.7:30 a.m.) with a 10% shift differential. Voluntary overtime is available on weekends for those who want additional hours. The environment is equipped with CNC mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and press brakes, supported by modern tooling, precision gauges, and measuring instruments. Safety shoe and eyewear allowances reinforce a focus on proper protective equipment, and the team culture emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, and supporting a growing operation.

This is a Contract position based out of Blue Ash, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
