Director of Distribution

Mayflower Specialty is building the first AI-native Managing General Agent (MGA) — insuring algorithmic and governance risk for the AI economy. We design liability and management insurance products that protect companies deploying AI systems from failures in fairness, explainability, hallucination, and governance. Our team combines venture capital, insurance, and AI expertise, backed by leading reinsurance and brokerage partners.

THE ROLE

We're seeking a Director of Distribution to build and own Mayflower's broker network from the ground up. This is a founding distribution seat, you'll be our primary relationship owner with retail and wholesale brokers, shaping how the market discovers and accesses our AI liability products. This role is ideal for a distribution professional who has operated within a specialty MGA or E&S market, understands the broker ecosystem deeply, and wants to build something new rather than maintain something inherited. You'll have the authority and autonomy to onboard brokers, manage distribution agreements, and translate market feedback directly into product and underwriting conversations. Identifying target markets, building distribution channels, and managing key broker and partner relationships are all key. Day-to-day responsibilities include driving new business opportunities, overseeing the sales pipeline, setting and tracking distribution goals, and collaborating with underwriting, product, and marketing teams to align go-to-market plans. The Director of Distribution will analyze performance metrics, optimize channel effectiveness, and prepare regular reports and forecasts for senior leadership. This role also involves mentoring team members, refining distribution processes, and representing the company at industry events and with strategic partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build and manage Mayflower's broker distribution network identifying, onboarding, and activating retail and wholesale broker relationships across target verticals.
• Own the end-to-end broker appointment process, including agreements, licensing coordination, and compliance requirements.
• Develop and execute a distribution strategy that expands access to Mayflower's AI liability and management liability products.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for broker partners managing ongoing relationships, fielding submissions, and supporting placement activity.
• Collaborate closely with underwriting to ensure broker-sourced submissions align with our risk appetite and product design.
• Track and report on pipeline activity, broker production, and distribution growth metrics.
• Represent Mayflower at industry events, conferences, and broker meetings to build brand presence in the specialty insurance market.
• Feed market intelligence — broker appetite, competitor positioning, and product gaps back to the founding team

YOU MIGHT BE A FIT IF YOU HAVE

• 4–8 years of experience in specialty insurance distribution, ideally within an MGA, wholesale broker, or E&S carrier environment.
• A working network of retail and/or wholesale broker relationships you can activate.
• Experience managing broker appointments, distribution agreements, or producer licensing.
• Comfort working in an early-stage environment where process doesn't yet exist — you'll build it.
• Strong communication skills and the instinct to represent a technical product clearly to a non-technical broker audience.
• Interest in AI, technology liability, or emerging risk — you don't need to be a technologist, but you should be curious about the space.
• (Bonus) Prior experience with D&O, E&O, or technology-related specialty lines.
