A growth-stage, well-funded company in the AI-driven risk and threat-intelligence space is hiring a   Two Lead Backend Software Engineers . The platform turns a wide range of public and non-public data signals into automated monitoring, investigations, and decision-ready risk workflows — powered by AI agents, machine learning, and human analyst expertise, built to help enterprises get ahead of fraud and bad actors instead of reacting after the fact.

The Role

This is a lead-level IC role, not a management title. The right candidate can take an ambiguous, undefined problem, scope it out to roughly a quarter, and lead execution alongside one or two other engineers. Expect to inherit systems already serving real customers and rebuild them without missing a beat — while shipping high-impact work in the near term. Strong generalist engineering fundamentals matter far more here than any specific security background. Output matters more than process: using AI tools is expected, not frowned on, as long as the work can be explained and defended.

What You'll Do

• Architect & Simplify — Gather requirements independently, design high-impact systems, and write technical docs that account for cost, scalability, and long-term maintainability. Build codebases other engineers can actually extend.
• Lead & Mentor — Act as technical lead for peers: mentor engineers, give direct feedback in both directions, and resolve conflict constructively.
• Drive Excellence — Set the standard for velocity and quality. Spot team-level problems, build buy-in on fixes, and improve the codebase — test coverage, simplicity — well beyond individual tickets.
• Cross-Pollinate — Work across teams to align strategy, coordinate testing across clusters, and raise engineering practice broadly.

What You'll Bring

• Expert-level backend/cloud engineering fundamentals — comfortable designing, shipping, and owning systems end to end
• Comfort with ambiguity — able to define scope on a loosely-defined problem and drive it to completion over roughly a quarter
• Fluency across the "ilities": testability, scalability, reliability, maintainability, security, observability
• Range across disciplines — equally at home in data pipelines, build systems, or service architecture
• A track record of taking feedback well and resolving friction constructively

Nice to Have

• ML experience that predates the LLM era — comfortable measuring model quality and iterating on systems, not just prompting one
• Python fluency and hands-on experience building LLM agents or tooling
• Experience with data processing at scale
