Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | 36 or 48 hours per week | 13–20 week assignments available

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with a 1:6 patient ratio, caring for patients with diagnoses including diabetes, CHF, sepsis, renal failure, GI bleed, COPD, pneumonia, and various surgical recovery cases
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms, identify and manage dysrhythmias, and utilize remote telemetry monitoring systems
• Perform and manage IV therapy including peripheral line care, PICC line management, central line blood draws, phlebotomy, and administration of blood products, heparin, insulin, and PCA
• Provide respiratory support including management of BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, oral suctioning, and non-invasive airway management
• Deliver wound care including wound vac management, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, and chest tube care
• Participate in Rapid Response and Code team activations; adhere to isolation precautions and PPE protocols; float to alternate units as required

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Carolina or a Compact state (pending licensure accepted for submission)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg and/or Telemetry experience
• Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
• Current BLS certification
• NIHSS certification
• Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
• Ability to work every other weekend, two of three major holidays, and respond during disaster or mass casualty events as part of Storm/Hurricane Team assignments

Preferred Experience / Skills

• ACLS certification; experience with on-unit telemetry monitoring, post-angiogram, post-cardiac surgery, post-MI care, and IV insulin protocols
• Experience with tracheostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, and pre/post thoracic surgery care
• Background in bariatric surgery, CVA management, substance withdrawal, and accessing/managing ports
• Previous charge nurse experience, community hospital background, and proficiency with electronic documentation systems including Pyxis
