Environmental Health Specialist I

Our Environmental Health Team is looking for an Environmental Health Specialist I , at our Southeast Public Health Center located in Westmont, Illinois. The ideal candidate will be responsible for conducting inspections of permitted facilities (restaurants, other food service establishments, schools, daycares, pools/spas) & engage in environmental health related activities; gain knowledge, interpret and apply rules and regulations of state law and local ordinances in a consistent manner. Job Details Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:30pm (37.5 hours/week) On-Call (about 4 times a year) After 4:30 pm or weekends depending on temporary food events. Prepares electronic inspection reports. Documents all violations issues notices of corrective action and ensures future adherence through periodic follow up visits. Communicates clearly with permit holders Responds to citizens’ complaints as they relate to environmental health issues. Collects environmental samples and tests as required. Conducts educational presentations on food safety and other general environmental health related topics. Provides and explains educational materials, regulations, policies, and other compliance to permit holders and the public. Participates in emergency response activities as assigned. Maintains required training, licensure and/or certification. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to client privacy laws. Demonstrates sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures. Adheres to department guidelines for attendance and punctuality, meets established productivity standards. Available to respond to afterhours emergency calls on a rotating basis. Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health, related field or a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of thirty semester hours or forty-five quarter hours in the physical and/or biological sciences. Must have a valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation. Working skill in identifying, analyzing facts and data in order to make recommendations for compliance; ability to interpret and apply policies in a consistent manner; professional verbal and written communication; prepares documentation that is consistent with laws and regulations; maintain records and files; organize one’s work to meet deadlines; develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with internal and external customers; proficient using personal computer, applicable software and peripheral equipment #J-18808-Ljbffr DuPage County Health Department
