Applications Sales Engineer II (Metals and Industrial Markets)

Description Must reside within the greater areas of: Los Angeles, CA; San Francisco, CA; Portland, OR. Principal Responsibilities Create, grow, and maintain sales of industrial gas products and technical solutions to new and existing customers in specific industries (Metals - heat treatment and combustion). Act as the technical expert that differentiates Messer from competition and drives profitable sales using the Messer Pro sales process for acquiring new customers and growing and retaining existing ones. Differentiates Messer equipment and solution offerings from competitors by understanding prospect/customer needs and objectives and applying creativity, innovation, and a value‑added sales approach to improve the customer's manufacturing processes. Supports the sales and market segment personnel in opportunity qualification, design of technical solutions, determination of value creation, understanding of customer/prospect feedback, and development of solution cost, including proposal development for technical solutions, in a team effort. Gains understanding of competitive gas supply contract terms. Maintains the existing customer base through customer process knowledge and technical expertise and assists in relationship selling. Obtains insight regarding industry trends and opportunities for development of new application technologies or improvement of existing equipment. Builds relationships with multiple functions (e.g., operations, maintenance, engineering) in prospect/customer organizations. Develops and employs industry networks (industry players, complementary equipment/service providers, academics) to enhance Messer prioritization and performance. Responsible for applications equipment/technical solution design for the target industry, working closely with the Applications Equipment Engineering team, Industry Manager, and Messer Global technical team. Products actions that are precursors to successful value creation through application of technical solutions such as customer process audits and safety training and awareness activities. Maintains technical knowledge and competence in the company's application technologies and services as well as alternative and competitive technical solutions. Required Education & Skills Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline, preferably Materials, Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mechanical. MBA is a plus. At least five (5) years of related experience, including applying or selling technical solutions in a metals processing, metals technology selling or commercialization, or manufacturing environment. Willing and able to travel up to 50% of the time.
