Security and Asset Protection Associate

SCHEELS is seeking a dedicated associate for asset protection, safety, and first‑responder duties. This role requires vigilance, interaction with law enforcement, and a commitment to customer service. Responsibilities Asset Protection Communicate with leadership regarding encounters and investigations Maintain professional relationships with local authorities and law enforcement agencies Collaborate with law enforcement and other local retailers to identify organized retail crime threats Assist leadership with cash handling and transfers Observe customers and associates for possible theft or fraud Take appropriate action to prevent theft and apprehend individuals when prevention is not effective Conduct surveillance and apprehension of external theft suspects in compliance with company standards Monitor video via CCTV and conduct on‑site interviews Maintain all apprehension and investigation records according to company standards Develop and maintain knowledge of CCTV surveillance equipment Assist in monitoring store compliance with company policies and procedures related to theft deterrence, safety, and operational controls as assigned by the supervisor Maintain a high visible deterrent to crime and positively influence the security incident rate and assist with inventory controls Safety Help mitigate security risks to provide a safer environment for employees and customers Welcome all customers, visitors, and vendors professionally and assist them in locating staff within stores Issue electric handicapped shopping carts to customers and assist in obtaining wheelchairs and shopping carts Examine and properly tag property brought into the stores including personal property, equipment for service, and firearms Watch facilities and parking areas on foot, direct traffic during special events or heavy customer traffic, while enforcing parking regulations Make regularly scheduled floor and exterior walks to ensure the safety and security of customers and the facility Complete monthly reports on safe or non‑safe practices found on the sales floor or backstocks First Responder Help customers and staff with vehicle breakdowns and lock‑outs and retrieve shopping carts from parking areas React as necessary and assist in handling situations such as shoplifting, medical emergencies, and inclement weather Work assigned schedules that may include varied hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays Requirements Customer Service Consistently treat co‑workers, customers, and business partners with genuine respect, eye contact, a smile, and a “Thank you” Culture Approach daily tasks, projects, and follow‑up communication with energy and a sense of urgency Cultivate a deep desire to become a knowledge expert in the role and apply knowledge with impact Show respect and appreciation for others and Scheels Arrive to work and meetings 10 minutes early Team Mentality Show genuine interest and action in helping others before yourself, regardless of recognition or reward Teach‑ability Eager to listen, learn, apply knowledge, and accept critical feedback Adapt to a changing work environment Apply concepts of basic math, grammar, punctuation, and spelling Dress Code Meet Scheels dress and grooming expectations in a professional, clean, welcoming environment Efficiency Demonstrate pride and ownership of work while meeting expected deadlines Education & Experience High School Diploma/GED; college graduate preferred Proven track record of strong communication and organization skills Preference for candidates with prior Loss Prevention experience (2‑3 years) Currently certified or willing to become certified in CPR and OC (pepper spray) foam deployment Schedule Ability to work nights, weekends, and/or early morning hours based on business needs. Typically scheduled 1‑2 nights per week (5:00‑9:00 pm) and must be available two weekends per month with varied shifts during business hours. Average hours: 15‑25 hours per week.
