Salary Range: $40,672.00 - $66,295.00 Annually

Job Summary:

A Radio Dispatcher I ensures that passengers and materials are transported in a timely manner by establishing routes, scheduling vehicles and dispatching drivers by means of a two-way base radio and the telephone. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek, however positions in some agencies are required to work a rotating shift to provide 24-hour coverage, seven days per week. Work is performed in an office setting where the employee is not exposed to uncomfortable environmental or hazardous working conditions. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications:

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Education: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.

AND

Experience: Have two years of experience in dispatching or driving vehicles.

Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates: Some positions in this class may require a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial or equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management.

• Knowledge of City Street locations.
• Knowledge of basic Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations.
• Ability to read maps.

• Ability to operate a two-way base radio and related communications equipment.
• Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to maintain records.

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointments to positions will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
