Operations & Patient Flow

• Daily Workflow : Directing unit traffic to prevent bottlenecks and long wait times.
• Bed Management : Coordinating with the ER and ICU to ensure rapid patient placement.
• Resource Allocation : Assigning staff based on "patient acuity" (the severity of illness).
• Discharge Planning : Meeting with social workers to ensure safe, timely patient exits- with special focus on Length of Stay and documentation improvement to improve the Case Mix Index

Human Resources & Team Leadership

• Staff Scheduling : Managing 24/7 rotations, including call-outs and holiday coverage.
• Conflict Resolution : Mediating disputes between medical staff or between staff and families.
• Skill Development : Identifying training gaps and organizing "in-service" education sessions.
• Performance Tracking : Setting annual goals and conducting formal reviews for nurses and techs.

Quality, Safety, & Compliance

• Audit Readiness : Ensuring the unit is always prepared for surprise Joint Commission inspections
• Incident Investigation : Reviewing "near misses" or patient falls to create prevention plans.
• Infection Control : Monitoring strict adherence to hand-hygiene and sterile procedure protocols.
• Patient Experience : Reviewing HCAHPS scores and addressing patient complaints directly.

Financial & Strategic Management

• Budget Variance : Explaining why the department went over or under budget each month.
• Supply Chain : Approving high-cost medical equipment orders and monitoring waste.
• Strategic Growth : Helping the Department Chair plan for new service lines or unit expansions.
• Labor Costs : Monitoring "overtime" usage and balancing the use of expensive travel nurses.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education : Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Masters preferred
• Experience : Typically 3–5 years of clinical experience, often in a hospital or leadership role.
• Certifications : Valuable credentials include Certified Clinical Manager (CCM) or Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM)- preferred
• Technical Proficiency : Expert knowledge of Electronic Health Records (EHR) and healthcare management software.

Salary: $135,000
