Job Summary Old Dominion Heat Trace is seeking an Estimator to join our team. This position is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects to ensure they are completed on time and within budget. The Estimator will analyze project plans, specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and other related costs while supporting project success through detailed cost analysis and budgeting. The ideal candidate will have experience estimating heat trace projects and a strong understanding of industrial and commercial construction processes. We are seeking a detail-oriented professional who can accurately evaluate project requirements, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support successful project execution from preconstruction through completion. Please note: This is a full-time, in-office position based at our main headquarters in Richmond, Virginia. Remote work is not available for this role. Relocation assistance may be considered for highly qualified candidates who do not currently reside in or near the Richmond, Virginia area. Major Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position. This is not a complete listing, and other duties will be assigned based on the position’s role within the business unit. Manage bid pricing from all vendors Review documentation (e.g., plans, specifications), communicate with the vendor and contractor, and visit job sites and other venues as needed to ensure understanding of the scope of work and project requirements Research the cost of items (e.g., materials, equipment, labor) on an ongoing basis to ensure accurate estimates Complete take-offs using on-screen take-off software to gather information needed for bids Generate accurate, detailed, and timely estimates and purchase orders for all products Prepare and submit bid packages within specified timeframe Conduct ongoing cost analysis to verify profitability and adjust estimating procedures when necessary Build and maintain effective working relationships with vendors and trade partners Manage all potential change orders Communicate with trade partners and team members throughout all stages of the project to ensure the project stays within budget Continually seek and identify opportunities to grow and position the business for success Oversee the preparation and maintenance of project logs and directories of suppliers, contractors and other trade partners Minimum Qualifications At least three years of experience in construction estimating in Heat Trace Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science, Engineering or related field Ability to read, understand, and navigate architectural plans and specifications Ability to multi-task, meet strict deadlines, and manage time and priorities effectively Considerable knowledge of construction processes Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills Excellent math and analytical skills Detail-oriented and decisive Proficiency in MS Word and Excel Impeccable problem solving skills Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and other trade partners Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer Able to walk, sit, stand, bend, kneel, stretch, squat and climb Able to travel to jobsites, meetings, and other destinations as needed Able to wear required personal protective equipment Able to work with specialized construction equipment, tools, and materials Able to see, talk and hear in person, via phone and/or through online/video Able to use hands and fingers in a manner that allows for use of a keyboard and phone Able to lift & carry items up to 10 lbs Note: Offers will be made based on candidates' qualifications relevant to the position.
