PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Agronomy Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the agronomy business and sales functions for The Arthur Companies. This role provides strategic leadership to the agronomy team while driving sales growth, customer retention, operational coordination, and profitability. The Agronomy Manager works closely with Agronomists, Operations leadership, and executive leadership to ensure exceptional customer service, efficient product delivery, and achievement of company goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and support the Agronomy team to achieve sales, margin, and customer service objectives.
- Establish individual and team sales goals and monitor performance against expectations.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, development, and performance management of Agronomy team members.
- Foster a positive, safety-focused, and customer-oriented culture.
- Assign and manage customer territories and account responsibilities among Agronomists.
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans aligned with company objectives and growth initiatives.
- Analyze market trends, competitive activity, customer needs, and pricing strategies to maximize sales and profitability.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships while supporting Agronomists in key account development and retention.
- Participate in customer meetings, sales presentations, and business planning with key accounts.
- Identify opportunities for market expansion, product growth, and increased customer engagement.
Financial & Operational Management
- Monitor sales performance, margins, inventory positions, and expenses to ensure achievement of budget and profitability goals.
- Assist in developing annual budgets, forecasts, and capital investment recommendations.
- Prepare and review reports related to sales volume, gross margin, growth trends, pipeline opportunities, and operational performance.
- Manage fertilizer and seed positions in coordination with procurement and leadership teams.
- Coordinate with Operations leadership to support efficient product logistics, application scheduling, and customer delivery expectations.
Communication & Collaboration
- Maintain effective communication across Agronomy, Operations, Accounting, and Leadership teams.
- Collaborate with vendors, suppliers, and industry partners to support business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Participate in strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree
- 5+ years sales experience
- Prefer prior management experience or proven ability to coach Team Members to meet sales targets
- Knowledge and familiarity with products and services
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely navigate agricultural facilities, warehouses, equipment, and uneven outdoor terrain.
- Ability to enter and exit trucks, equipment, and customer facilities.
- Must be able to work in varying indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.
- Ability to travel to customer locations, branch facilities, meetings, and field locations as needed.
- Seasonal business demands may require extended work hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Other requirements as duties are assigned.
