Position Summary

The Operations Manager - Middle Tennessee is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operational performance across assigned customer service and distribution locations throughout the Middle Tennessee area. This role ensures locations consistently execute company standards related to customer service, inventory, labor, safety, order accuracy, and overall operational performance.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Manager works closely with Location Managers and partners with Sales, Transportation, Finance, Procurement, and other departments to ensure customer needs are met while maintaining efficient and consistent operations.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting and developing location leadership, identifying and resolving operational issues, driving accountability, and implementing the processes and standards established by the Director of Operations. The Operations Manager serves as the connection between location-level execution and broader operational strategy.

What You Will Be Doing

Regional Operations Leadership

• Oversee operational performance across assigned Middle Tennessee locations.
• Ensure locations consistently execute established company processes, procedures, and operating standards.
• Maintain regular presence at assigned locations to understand operational needs, support leadership, and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Work with Location Managers to address day-to-day operational challenges and remove barriers to performance.
• Implement operational initiatives and process improvements established by the Director of Operations.
• Support seasonal and demand planning to ensure locations are prepared for changes in customer activity, inventory needs, and staffing requirements.
• Identify recurring operational issues and escalate broader or systemic concerns to the Director of Operations.

Customer Experience

• Ensure locations consistently deliver a professional, responsive, and reliable customer experience.
• Monitor order accuracy, customer complaints, service issues, and other indicators of customer experience.
• Partner with Location Managers, Sales, and Customer Service teams to resolve operational issues affecting customers.
• Reinforce front-of-house customer service expectations across assigned locations.
• Help resolve escalated customer issues when operational support is required.

Operational Performance

• Monitor location performance using key operational metrics, including:
  • Order accuracy
  • Inventory accuracy and health
  • Labor efficiency and staffing
  • Pricing accuracy
  • Customer service performance
  • Safety performance
• Review performance regularly with Location Managers and establish clear action plans when improvement is needed.
• Identify root causes of recurring operational issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Hold location leadership accountable for established performance expectations.
• Provide the Director of Operations with regular updates on performance, risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.

Inventory & Distribution Management

• Oversee inventory management practices across assigned locations.
• Ensure locations follow established cycle count, inventory control, and auditing procedures.
• Partner with Sales, Finance, Procurement, and the Director of Operations to address inventory needs and concerns.
• Monitor inventory accuracy, product movement, organization, and overall inventory health.
• Identify inventory discrepancies and work with location teams to determine root causes and corrective actions.
• Support efficient product flow and operational coordination between locations.

Cross-Functional Partnership

• Serve as a regional operational partner to Sales and other departments supporting the Middle Tennessee market.
• Coordinate with Transportation, Finance, Procurement, Sales, and other teams to resolve operational issues and improve execution.
• Balance customer and sales needs with operational capabilities and company standards.
• Communicate operational risks, staffing concerns, inventory issues, and improvement opportunities to the Director of Operations.
• Support implementation of company-wide operational initiatives within the Middle Tennessee region.

Leadership & Team Development

• Provide leadership, coaching, and support to Location Managers and other operational leaders within the assigned region.
• Establish clear expectations and reinforce accountability for operational performance.
• Help Location Managers develop stronger leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Identify leadership and staffing gaps and partner with the Director of Operations and Human Resources to address them.
• Support succession planning and development of future operational leaders.
• Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and ownership at the location level.

Continuous Improvement

• Evaluate location processes for efficiency, consistency, quality, and customer impact.
• Identify opportunities to simplify processes and improve operational execution.
• Implement and reinforce operational best practices across assigned locations.
• Share successful practices and improvement opportunities with the Director of Operations for potential use across the broader organization.
• Track improvement initiatives to ensure changes produce measurable and sustainable results.

Safety & Compliance

• Promote a culture where safety is a core expectation of daily operations.
• Ensure assigned locations follow company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Partner with Location Managers and Safety leadership to address safety concerns and corrective actions.
• Participate in operational and safety reviews, audits, and follow-up activities.
• Ensure identified safety or compliance issues are addressed promptly and appropriately.
• Escalate significant safety or compliance concerns to the Director of Operations and appropriate company leadership.

The Required Skills and Education to Be Successful

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant operations leadership experience will be considered.

Experience

• 5+ years of progressive operations leadership experience preferred.
• Experience overseeing multiple locations, departments, or operational teams strongly preferred.
• Experience in distribution, building materials, customer service operations, logistics, manufacturing support, or a related environment preferred.
• Demonstrated experience improving operational performance and holding teams accountable for results.
• Experience implementing standardized processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience leading and developing frontline or location-level leaders.

This person is visible in the field, understands what is happening within each location, and addresses issues before they become larger problems. Rather than personally owning every day-to-day task, they develop capable location leaders, reinforce company standards, and create accountability for results.
