Senior Mechanical Designer Department: Mechanical Employment Type: Full Time Location: Virginia Compensation: $62,500 - $77,000 / year Description Join the APD family – where passion meets purpose! The Senior Mechanical Designer will engineer HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a variety of projects including retail, restaurant, public infrastructure, facilities, and residential. The role emphasizes retail design, with a focus on delivering high‑quality solutions within a dynamic MEP Department. Key Responsibilities Develop mechanical drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Perform load calculations to determine system sizes. Ensure compliance with mechanical, plumbing, energy, and NFPA codes and specifications. Adhere to deadlines in a fast‑paced consulting environment. Conduct field visits to document and verify existing equipment and systems. Handle construction administration duties, including answering RFIs, reviewing submittals, and resolving design/coordination issues with contractors. Coordinate mechanical systems and utility design with Electrical, Architectural, Civil, and Structural disciplines. Minimum Qualifications AS or BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited school. 3+ years of experience in HVAC or plumbing & fire protection design. 1+ years of AutoCAD education, training, or related experience. Preferred Qualifications BS or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited school. 5+ years of experience in HVAC or plumbing & fire protection design.
