Full-Time Tennis Coach

Position Summary West Valley-Mission CCD (WVM) and the Department of Athletics is now accepting applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track instructor coaching Tennis at Mission College and West Valley College. We are seeking applicants who have successful experience and a genuine interest in serving a wide range of students from different backgrounds, with a particular focus on serving historically excluded and marginalized groups. This position will perform head tennis coaching assignments for both men’s and women’s tennis, including supervision of athletes, organization of practices, and scheduling of games; creation, management, and implementation of a year‑round strength and conditioning program; coordination of recruitment and retention of student‑athletes; representation of West Valley College at CCCAA, Sport Coaches Association, and conference meetings; compliance with California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) rules and regulations; oversight of the Tennis program budget; leadership of the overall organization and direction of the Tennis program; direction of public relations and fundraising activities; and provision of various support roles such as athletic tutoring and fundraising. The successful candidate will also recruit, train, and oversee staff of assistant tennis coaches, participate in professional development activities, and perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and institutional needs. Assignment This is a full‑time, 10‑month, tenure‑track faculty position that is anticipated to begin in Fall 2026. Coaching assignments may include day and/or evening classes, Monday through Saturday, as needed. This position is represented by the West Valley‑Mission Federation of Teachers (WVMFT/AFT Local 6554). Work location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA and West Valley College, Saratoga, CA. Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range: $97,318 – $157,048 annually (10 months), based upon academic achievement, teaching and related experience (Academic Salary Schedule, Steps 1‑9). Minimum Qualifications Education – Possess one of the following: any bachelor’s degree(s) or higher and two years of related professional experience; or any associate degree and six years of related professional experience; or a valid California Community College Instructor’s Credential in Coaching; or the equivalent of the above. Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff. Desired Qualifications Proven success recruiting high‑caliber student‑athletes from premier club and high school programs. Master’s Degree in Kinesiology is preferred. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities Provide instruction for assigned courses, including preparation, in‑class activities, evaluation of students’ work, consultation with students outside of class, and ensuring regular effective student contact for Distance Education courses. Maintain currency in the subjects taught, participate in SLO assessment and evaluation, and use results to continuously improve student learning. Maintain accurate class and other records. Submit, when due, all necessary reports, such as attendance, grade reports, rosters, class and office schedules. File a syllabus for each course with the appropriate division offices. Post and maintain office hours each week. Provide each student with a current course syllabus as required by Title 5, which includes SLOs, classroom procedures, requirements and grading policies, and provide a copy to the Division Office. Refer students to appropriate college resources. Assist students by providing advice on requirements for successful achievement in the members’ area of expertise. Assume institutional responsibilities essential to the ongoing operation and effective achievement of department, division, college and district programs. Working Conditions Other duties and physical demands are not applicable.
