Head of Capital Markets / Chief Financial Officer

Macdonald & Company is partnering with an established private real estate investment firm to appoint a Head of Capital Markets / Chief Financial Officer.

The primary mandate for this position is to lead the firm's capital raising strategy, developing new investor relationships and personally raising equity capital to support the continued growth of the investment platform.

Alongside Capital Markets, this individual will assume responsibility for the firm's finance and accounting function, managing an established accounting team and overseeing financial reporting, treasury, tax, audit and financial planning.

This is an unusual opportunity for an accomplished real estate capital raiser who also has the financial expertise and leadership experience to operate as CFO. The successful candidate will join the senior leadership team, sit on the Investment Committee and work directly with the CEO and Partners on investment strategy, capital formation and the broader growth of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the firm's equity capital raising strategy across new and existing real estate investments.
• Personally develop, originate and convert relationships with high-net-worth investors, family offices, institutional investors and other sources of private capital.
• Manage the capital raising process from initial investor outreach through presentations, diligence, negotiation and capital commitment.
• Develop and expand the firm's existing investor network while creating new channels for future capital formation.
• Work closely with the CEO and investment team to establish annual capital requirements, fundraising targets and capital strategy.
• Represent the firm with existing and prospective investors, clearly communicating its investment strategy, individual opportunities, underwriting and track record.
• Oversee investor communications, presentations, marketing materials, meetings and events supporting the growth of the investor base.
• Support debt placement and financing initiatives alongside the firm's equity capital raising activities.
• Lead the firm's finance and accounting function, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax, audit and internal controls.
• Manage and develop the existing accounting team and maintain relationships with external CPAs, tax advisors, lenders and legal counsel.
• Provide financial and strategic analysis to the CEO and senior leadership team across investments, capital allocation and broader business planning.
• Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and Investment Committee, contributing to the firm's investment and growth strategy.

The Candidate

First and foremost, the successful candidate will be a proven capital raiser.

Candidates should have a demonstrable track record of personally developing investor relationships and raising meaningful equity capital for real estate investments. Experience raising from high-net-worth individuals and family offices is particularly relevant, although the firm is open to executives who have built their track record across other private or institutional capital channels.

This is a hands-on fundraising position. The firm is not looking for a traditional CFO whose Capital Markets experience has primarily involved overseeing financing relationships, reviewing transactions or managing third-party placement agents.

At the same time, candidates will need the financial sophistication and leadership experience to oversee an established accounting function and operate credibly as CFO. A strong understanding of real estate investment structures, financial reporting, transaction economics and investment returns will therefore be important.
