Details: Hourly, 20 hours/week

Reports to: Executive Director, Southeast Michigan Site

Children's Healing Centers (CHC) are the nation's first recreational centers for kids with weak immune systems. With sites in Ypsilanti Township and Grand Rapids, Michigan, we provide social and emotional healing in a germ-free environment. The Centers are safe havens for kids ages 0 to 26, and their families, to step away from the stress of a complex medical diagnosis to just have fun! We break down the barriers of isolation and make play possible.

Position Summary

The Outreach & Membership Coordinator is responsible for helping grow membership at the Children's Healing Center's Southeast Michigan location. The position develops relationships with healthcare providers and community partners who serve children who may qualify for the Center, strengthens the referral pipeline, and helps referred families successfully connect with the Center.

The coordinator also participates in regular Center programming to remain closely connected to member families, understand the program experience firsthand, and communicate the Center's impact effectively to referral partners.

This position is assigned to the Southeastern Michigan location but will coordinate with the statewide team on messaging, materials, CRM practices, and organizational growth initiatives

Key Responsibilities

Outreach and Referral Development

• Build and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, clinics, hospital departments, social workers, child life specialists, care coordinators, and other referral sources serving eligible families.
• Proactively identify and develop new referral sources throughout Southeast Michigan.
• Conduct regular outreach through calls, email, in-person visits, presentations, networking, and consistent follow-up.
• Clearly communicate who the Center serves, eligibility requirements, available programs, and the referral process.
• Partner with the SEM Program Manager on hospital relationships
• Maintain an organized pipeline of provider relationships, referrals, prospective families, and follow-up activities.
• Represent the Center professionally at selected healthcare and community networking opportunities.
• Monthly newsletter creation and distribution.

Membership

• Respond promptly to prospective member referrals and inquiries and guide families through the membership process.
• Identify barriers preventing referred families from engaging and work with the SEM team to address them.
• Track referral sources and membership growth to identify which relationships and outreach strategies are producing results.
• Monthly newsletter creation and distribution.
• Willingness to learn how to develop program flyers, eblasts (membership and programming) and other program supporting materials and monthly program email drops.
• Participate in and help facilitate Center programming for a few hours each week, as scheduled, to stay connected to families and maintain a strong working knowledge of the member experience.

Qualifications & Strengths

• Highly relational and collaborative; comfortable initiating professional relationships with staff, qualifying families, referral partners, volunteers, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to explain the Center's mission and services clearly and compellingly.
• Professional discernment regarding communication and interactions with prospective members, current members, referral partners, staff, and volunteers as they vary situationally.
• Knowledge necessary to engage in conversations about qualifying medical diagnoses and conditions with tact and curiosity.
• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to the psychosocial needs of children and families, including those navigating complex medical diagnoses and varying abilities.
• Confident and persistent with membership outreach and follow-ups with referral partners in various settings: healthcare, schools, non-profit, community events, etc.
• Confidence in program settings and engaging in developmental play with members of various ages, abilities, and family dynamics.
• Work experience in healthcare, community outreach, membership development, and/or non-profits preferred
• Familiarity using a CRM system, Constant Contact, Canva, and Microsoft 360 preferred
• Bachelor's degree: Social work, child life, nursing, family studies, or human services preferred.
