Telecommunications Mechanic I

Description The Telecommunications Mechanic I installs, removes, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs voice and/or non-voice communications systems including intercom and public address systems, alarm systems, teletype equipment, and electronic and electromechanical telephone key systems/PBAXs; terminal and communications equipment, including line drivers. This mechanic runs cables, key cables, or house wire to all telephone sets, terminal connectors, lugs, pins, or screws, associated with key telephone equipment and/or terminating equipment for non-voice circuits. Requirements Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in outside plant telecommunications infrastructure installation and maintenance. Knowledge of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, copper cables, and coaxial cables. Familiarity with industry standards and guidelines. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, maps, and schematics. Experience with cable splicing, termination, and testing. Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights. Ability to walk, stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods of time. Ability to use cable locating equipment and tools. Responsibilities Install and maintain outside plant telecommunications infrastructure Troubleshoot and repair cable faults and service outages. Conduct splicing, terminating, and testing of cables. Install and configure network equipment, such as routers, switches, and optical network terminals. Assist in the design and planning of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure. Provide technical support to customers and field personnel. Maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities. Comply with safety regulations and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment. Perform preventative maintenance inspections Perform other duties as assigned. #J-18808-Ljbffr
