HVAC/Refrigeration Mechanic

Employment Type Full time Shift Day Shift Description Installs, repairs, services and performs preventive maintenance of equipment, i.e. refrigerators, ice machines, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. Essential Functions Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health and MercyOne Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions. Installs, maintains, services and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment and systems. Performs general plumbing repair and installation on a variety of supply and exhaust systems, as assigned. Maintains and repairs a variety of pneumatic and electric equipment related to the trade, as assigned. Troubleshoots assigned areas and/or equipment. Specializes in repair, preventive maintenance and service of refrigeration equipment. Complies with MercyOne and Trinity Health policies and procedures. Sets and organizes own work priorities and adapts to changes frequently. Works concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in a stressful environment with diverse personalities and work styles. Performs other duties as needed and assigned by maintenance leadership. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, and other policies and procedures. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. CFC Refrigeration Transition and Recovery Certificate (Specialized or technical training such as high school or shop courses or intensive preparation outside of school). Comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. Two years of experience or training in specialized and general areas of maintenance. Knowledge of general maintenance work, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical systems. Valid Iowa Driver’s/Chauffeurs License required, with an accident‑free driving record for the last three years and at least 18 years of age. Proof of current personal automobile insurance as required by Iowa law. Personal presence characterized by honesty, integrity, and caring, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Trinity Health and MercyOne. Physical And Mental Requirements Physical Activity Requirements: Constant Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm, such as holding tools – screwdrivers, drills, hammers, power tools, etc. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Frequent Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Reaching; extending hands and arms in any direction while using power or hand tools. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like. Repetitive motions; substantial movements of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers, such as wiring, turning screwdrivers. Pushing/Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something to force forward or backward. Occasional Feeling: Perceiving attributes to objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal range and making fine discriminations. Physical Demand Requirements: Heavy work – exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 40 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Mental Requirements: Ability to maintain a high standard of courtesy and cooperation in dealing with employees, residents, and visitors while maintaining satisfactory job performance in a stressful hospital work environment. Adaptability to assume responsibility for direction, control, or planning of activities. Adaptability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to employees or before groups. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Work involves taking measurements, assembling parts at distances close to the eyes and inspecting work. This job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Working Conditions: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: activities occur inside and outside. The worker is subject to extreme cold – temperature below 32°F for periods of more than one hour such as when doing snow removal. The worker is subject to extreme heat – temperatures above 100°F for periods of more than an hour, such as when working on rooftop units. The worker is subject to noise from power tools, fans, compressors, and other loud equipment. The worker is subject to vibrations from using power tools, working around large equipment, and other equipment. The worker is subject to hazards such as working with electrical currents and moving mechanical parts.
