Assistant Operator

Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD), a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, is seeking an experienced Assistant Operator at its Granite City, IL facility. The Assistant Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting processes and equipment. Working hours are primarily Monday through Friday, with rotating day and night shifts every two weeks. Flexibility is required for occasional weekend on‑call duties and plant outage support. What's In It for You Affordable medical, dental, and vision insurance available day one of employment 401(k) with company match and core contributions Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time Paid parental leave Adoption assistance Flexible Spending Accounts (medical, dependent daycare) Health Savings Account Life Insurance (AD&D) and Supplemental AD&D Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Responsibilities Perform operations with chemical or industrial gas processes and equipment, including process control using DCS systems Support minor maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems Utilize computer‑based systems (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Office, and other applications) to complete administrative tasks Handle time effectively as a self‑starter, prioritizing critical tasks and delivering results with minimal supervision Collect and analyze data with a strong attention to detail to support sound decision‑making Communicate clearly and collaborate with technical and administrative teams across multiple locations Follow and maintain standardized policies and procedures to support safe, high‑quality, and cost‑efficient operations Qualifications High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience Applicable degrees, certifications, or other training considered a plus Solid background and previous work and/or military record Willingness to be on call to support 24×7 plant operations Physical Requirements Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs Compensation Hourly rate: $39.92 per hour Additional Information Technical School Graduates in Industrial Systems, Machine Tool Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Automotive Technology, HVAC, Process Technology, Electrical Technology, or Instrumentation Technology are encouraged to apply.
