Overview MRI Technologist performs all MRI procedures in accordance with established department policies and procedures to ensure high-quality patient care. Participates in on-call rotation. Responsibilities Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures according to established department protocols. Enter correct patient information and technical settings prior to execution of the procedure. Prepare and administer intravenous contrast media according to established protocols; perform venipuncture using sterile technique. Demonstrate working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy. Process, record, and archive images for evaluation, interpretation, and maintenance purposes. Complete filming of cases in a timely fashion according to radiologist requirements. Send image data to PACS; perform all tasks associated with proper execution of MR examinations following department and hospital policies. Accept assignments from supervisor in a positive manner and perform duties as needed, including non-routine tasks. Restock and maintain work area and equipment in an orderly fashion. Assist in movement of patients to and from wheelchairs, stretchers, beds, and imaging table; use restraints as needed. Participate in on-call coverage as needed, with flexibility for odd shifts based on workload. Perform RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information for medical records and billing; complete patient exams in RIS. Review charges and correct as necessary; perform visual maintenance checks on equipment and report malfunctions. Provide clear information regarding mechanical problems and service needs; record equipment downtime according to department procedures. Know MRI safety procedures and proper shutdown sequence of the system. Communicate with hospital staff and physicians to exchange pertinent patient information; assist in scheduling routine and emergency exams. Handle calls with courtesy and efficiency; communicate patient-related problems with appropriate chain of command. Demonstrate competency in procedures across age ranges from neonatal to geriatric; explain procedures to patients and consider comfort and emotional response. Respect patient privacy; handle all matters confidentially. Ensure patient meets criteria for a safe MRI scan; monitor for signs of anxiety or clinical difficulties. Abide by professional ethics; identify patient and family learning needs and provide appropriate information for age and learning level. Evaluate patient history for MRI capability; provide verbal education appropriate for patient and family; complete required documentation and discharge forms in a timely manner. Contribute to a positive work environment and demonstrate teamwork. Qualifications Licensure/Certification: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) license (or equivalent per job requirements). Education: Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program. Experience: 1 year of relevant work experience preferred.
