We are looking for a Staff Accountant to support municipal financial operations in Florida. This contract opportunity is ideal for an accounting specialist who can manage core accounting activities, maintain accurate records, and contribute to reporting, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance. The position works across multiple revenue streams and partners with internal teams and external contacts to help ensure sound financial practices.

Responsibilities:

• Record and post journal entries, maintain the general ledger, and help ensure financial data is accurate and current.

• Process cash receipts and oversee accounts receivable activities to support timely collection and proper documentation of incoming funds.

• Reconcile bank activity, revenue sources, and other financial accounts while investigating and resolving discrepancies.

• Prepare financial reports, analyze account activity, and provide support for monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.

• Assist with audit preparation by organizing schedules, responding to documentation requests, and supporting compliance reviews.

• Coordinate with departments, vendors, customers, and external agencies to address accounting questions and maintain effective financial operations.

• Support adherence to governmental accounting requirements, internal policies, and established financial controls.

• Serve as a resource for financial software-related processes and help users navigate accounting system functions when needed.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent accounting experience with strong attention to detail.
• Hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of accounts receivable, cash handling, and revenue tracking practices.
• Understanding of corporate tax, sales tax, and corporate tax return concepts.
• Advanced spreadsheet skills, including the ability to analyze large data sets and build accurate financial schedules.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal departments and external stakeholders.
