Environment may be stressful at times, therefore ability to work under stressful conditions is necessary. Lifting up to 50 lbs may be required, anything over 50 lbs should be a team lift or with the use of a lifting aid. Also subject to bloodborne pathogens at all times in patient care. May have occasional exposure to radiation during radiology procedures and to dangerous chemicals (cleaning and disinfecting agents). HIPAA and HIPAA Security Confidentiality Standards Workplace Safety Mandatory Training Annual Compliance Education ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Inpatient Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing day-to-day patient care, to include supervising, directing, and developing nursing staff. The Inpatient Manager will report to the Director of Acute Services to ensure delivery of quality patient care. To provide visible, inclusive, and approachable clinical leadership for nurses, patients, and families in the inpatient setting. To monitor standards of nursing care and take appropriate action to maintain and improve them while complying with regulatory and statutory requirements and complying with the policies and procedures of Ohio County Healthcare. To support and manage the nursing leadership team from the CCNO to the House Supervisors in completing annual job evaluations and competencies, maintaining appropriate staffing levels, maintaining performance standards, and offering all levels of leadership recommendations on how to improve care provided for our patients and families. Ensure effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing, Director of Acute Services, Physicians, and other care members to maintain a wholistic approach to care for inpatient patients. Ensure a patient safety culture is embedded throughout the organization. Creates a culture of continuous learning, where clinicians of all levels seek out developments in evidence-based practice to improve clinical standards. Acts as a liaison between inpatient staff and administration to ensure open lines of communication in both directions. Responsible for the development of departmental policies and procedures and doing a yearly evaluation of each policy. It is expected that the Inpatient Manager will personally demonstrate competency in the following Hospital Values. For new managers this will be determined through initial reference checks. For existing Managers this will be done through direct supervision and observation. Personnel Functions: The recruitment and retention of staff, disciplinary systems, assurance of competency, employee development, education, and training, evaluation of performance, communications. Within budgetary restraints, organizing the areas of responsibility and placing accountability with subordinates, in a manner that enhances the entire organization. Establishment of accountability throughout department; (where others are delegated specific duties and responsibility, expectations are clearly articulated and that the person so delegated is held accountable for fulfilling his or her responsibilities) Financial Functions: Financial operations of the department supervised, charge capture, as appropriate, expenses control, assuring that department supervised operates within parameters of approved budgets. Seeing that financial duties are carried out in full compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Seeing that all House supervisors and employees are actively involved in making meaningful improvements in their department/service financial position. Assisting the Director of Nursing in: development of the Annual Operating Budgets for the above-named areas, identification of capital equipment needs for the areas, and assisting the Business Office with chart audits as requested. Quality/Safety/Risk Management Functions: Improving quality of services rendered to patients, physicians, and other customers. Personally, improving quality of own work. Assuring that all areas supervised are actively involved in improving quality delivered (adherence to the Performance Improvement Plan, indicator monitoring, etc.). Assuring that all areas are actively involved in improving safety. Reporting and addressing any safety/risk management/infection control concern immediately to the Director of Quality; informing the Director of Nursing of those needing administrative attention. Participating in the Safety Program as directed, being familiar with responsibilities associated with emergency preparedness plan, being able to act as administrative designee when needed. Coordinating Inpatient activities in the emergency preparedness plan. Compliance: Reporting any compliance concern immediately to the hospitals Compliance Officer. Seeing that all departmental functions are carried out in full compliance with applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and laws. Seeing that a departmental compliance plan is in place and functioning; making sure all employees understand compliance expectations. Medical Staff: Assuring that all employees show courtesy and respect to physicians and those physicians are treated as our valued customers. Addressing physicians concerns in a timely manner. Maintaining positive communications with physicians and their clinic staff. Acting as a liaison with the Medical Staff and with Hospitalist physicians. Service Development: The Inpatient Manager is responsible for departmental planning which includes: Planning and setting objectives consistent with the Hospital’s overall strategic management plan and implementing actions to accomplish those plans. Market existing services provided to meet the needs of key customers and to generate new services. Identifying new business/service opportunities, within the scope of the services supervised, to meet patient (and community) needs. In this regard, the Inpatient Director follows the defined process established by the CFO and works with the CFO and CCNO in making sure financial impact statements for the proposed services are developed. Recommendations are made directly to CCNO. In addition, the Inpatient Manager is responsible for the following job specific, day to day activities within the departments/areas supervised: Assuring that staffing of the Inpatient Unit is adequate for patient needs, which may entail assisting in areas personally. Assist with arranging placements of out-patients needing therapeutic services. Following up on patient satisfaction concerns when the Inpatient unit is involved. Following up on physician concerns when Inpatient is involved. Assuring that daily reports are completed as required. The Inpatient Manager is responsible for the other following functions: In conjunction with the Director of Nursing and the Director of Acute Services, product selection after obtaining input from others as required. Assuring that payroll information is submitted on a timely basis. Updating the call roster. Scheduling for staff.
