Position Overview

Thazen, LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Cyber Software Engineer to support advanced software development and cybersecurity engineering efforts within a high-assurance technical environment. This position requires a strong background in low-level software engineering, network programming, reverse engineering, vulnerability analysis, and software development across multiple computing and operating system environments.

The ideal candidate will bring strong C/C++ development skills combined with hands-on knowledge of operating systems, network protocols, debugging, reverse engineering, and secure software development. This role is well suited for an engineer comfortable working close to the operating system, hardware, and network layers while solving complex cybersecurity challenges.

Candidates must be U.S. Citizens , possess an active Top Secret security clearance , and be able to work on-site in Cincinnati, Ohio .

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, test, debug, and troubleshoot software solutions supporting complex cybersecurity and networked systems.
• Develop low-level and kernel-mode software for Windows, Linux, and related operating environments using C/C++ and, when required, assembly language .
• Perform reverse engineering and vulnerability analysis of software applications, compiled binaries, operating systems, network applications, and communications systems.
• Develop, evaluate, and analyze network applications and lower-level communications utilizing protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, and SSL/TLS .
• Use debugging, system analysis, emulation, and reverse-engineering tools to investigate software behavior, identify vulnerabilities, diagnose problems, and resolve complex technical issues.
• Contribute throughout the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) , including requirements analysis, architecture and design, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and configuration management.
• Analyze software and system behavior at the operating system, network, and application layers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary software, cyber, systems, and network engineering teams to develop and evaluate technical solutions.
• Document and communicate technical findings, vulnerabilities, risks, recommendations, and engineering solutions to technical stakeholders.
• Provide technical leadership, conduct peer and code reviews, and offer technical guidance to other engineering team members as appropriate for the senior-level position.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline , combined with significant relevant professional experience. Advanced education may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Current active U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance required.
• Demonstrated professional software development experience using C and/or C++ .
• Experience working throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) .
• Experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
• Kernel-mode software development
• Embedded software development
• Command-and-control applications
• Network application development
• Reverse engineering
• Vulnerability research and analysis
• Strong knowledge of computer networking and lower-level network protocols, including TCP/IP and UDP .
• Experience debugging, analyzing, or reverse engineering software and systems using tools such as Wireshark, IDA Pro, WinDbg, JTAG debuggers , or comparable technologies.
• Understanding of operating system concepts, low-level software behavior, memory management, and secure and insecure programming practices .
• Ability to work effectively within a collaborative and technically demanding engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Active SCI eligibility or access .
• Experience serving as a technical lead or providing technical direction to small engineering teams.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline .
• Experience developing software across multiple operating systems and platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android , or comparable environments.
• Hands-on experience performing vulnerability research and reverse engineering of compiled binaries .
• Experience with assembly language and processor architectures such as x86, x64, ARM, MIPS, and/or PowerPC .
• Knowledge of software exploitation techniques, memory vulnerabilities, and Return-Oriented Programming (ROP) .
• Experience with reverse-engineering and binary-analysis tools such as Ghidra and IDA Pro .
• Experience using emulation and virtualization technologies , including QEMU, Renode , or comparable platforms.
• Strong knowledge of operating system internals, virtual machine technologies, kernel-level development, and other low-level software concepts .
• Familiarity with scripting languages and shell-code development .
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern CI/CD workflows , including tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins , or similar platforms.
• Experience working within Agile software development environments .

Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be a hands-on software engineer who is comfortable working at the intersection of cybersecurity, operating systems, networking, and low-level software development . This individual should be capable of investigating complex software behavior, analyzing vulnerabilities, debugging difficult system-level problems, and developing reliable software solutions for security-sensitive environments.

Candidates with broad experience spanning C/C++ development, kernel-mode programming, network protocols, reverse engineering, vulnerability research, operating system internals, and modern software engineering practices will be particularly well suited for this position.
