Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role requiring at least 1 year of intermediate/PCU experience and a Maine or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 12-bed Intermediate Care/PCU unit within a Level II Trauma Center hospital
• Night shift schedule of 7P-7A on a 12-hour rotation, 36 hours per week
• RN to patient ratio of 1:3-4 with tech support at 1:6, both day and night
• Patient population includes cardiac and medical cases such as post-op cardiac cath, ablation, TAVR, STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, sepsis, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, COVID, PNA, and respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or high-flow O2
• Care for long-term trach/vent patients, stroke patients, and stable post-craniotomy cases
• Utilizes Cerner EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
• Floating required to ED, ICU, or CCU when intermediate-level assignments exist in those units
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend

Requirements

• Active RN license (Maine state or compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of PCU/intermediate care experience, or 2 years of Med/Surg experience with some PCU exposure
• Experience caring for trached and ventilated patients, including trach suctioning and FiO2 administration via suction support
• Comfort performing Q2H neuro checks; prior stable post-craniotomy experience preferred but not required if confident in neuro assessments
• Skills in chest tube management, wound VAC dressing changes, BiPAP, non-titrating vasoactive/antiarrhythmic drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, temporary pacemakers, TR bands, femoral sheath care, insulin drips, and general drain/ostomy care
• Ability to start peripheral IVs; PICC/midline placement supported by dedicated IV/VAT team
• Cerner EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Level II Trauma Center with 411 total beds and on-site air flight capability
• Support staff includes 24/7 ICU-trained resource nurse, respiratory therapy, and hospitalist coverage, plus PT/OT Monday through Friday
• Charge nurse may carry a patient assignment if needed
• Orientation includes general hospital orientation followed by one day on the unit
• Holiday coverage expectations vary based on unit needs; all holiday time off requests require manager approval
• Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved at time of submission
• Scrubs of any color are acceptable as long as professional in appearance
• Free parking available in designated areas
• COVID-19 and influenza vaccination required for all staff

• Candidates who have previously worked in a permanent capacity at any Northern Light Health hospital are not eligible
• Permanent residence must be located 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility for consideration
