Senior IT Systems Engineer Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, seeks a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our Advanced Capabilities team. Based in Arlington, VA or San Diego, CA. Location & Clearance Requirements All applicants must currently possess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. Position is on‑site, requiring at least 5 days in office at either Arlington, VA or San Diego, CA. Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and task a team of systems and network engineers, establishing high engineering standards and directing engineering workflows. Architect, design, and oversee the installation of various server/networking devices within standard server racks as well as pelican‑based enclosures. Perform regular server updates, patch management, and software installations across the enterprise. Operate and maintain both virtual and physical servers running Red H, Windows, and VMware products. Install and provision newly purchased hardware and evaluate future hardware needs. Implement, maintain, and review security processes to maintain compliance, leading the team in updating DISA STIG checklists and preparing systems for RMF assessments. Help develop and maintain golden images (OS and virtual machine templates) for business area activities. Document systems and networks in detail for use by technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or equivalent professional experience. 7+ years of relevant experience. 2+ years leading technical teams or directing engineering workflows. Ability to travel up to 25% of the time as needed. Extensive experience in a VMware or similar virtualization environment. Experience troubleshooting complex network issues. Proficiency with Bash, C, and/or Python scripting. Strong foundation in TCP/IP concepts (TCP, UDP, VLANs, DHCP, routing). Experience provisioning and installing both physical devices and virtual machines. Security+, CCNA, or equivalent IAT Level II certification (IAT Level III acceptable). Experience with hardening devices and updating DISA STIG checklists. Experience with patching and remediating vulnerabilities in a closed/air‑gapped network. Preferred Skills Strong understanding of Red H or similar Linux distributions. Experience with tactical networking. Experience with Cisco switching, including Virtual Port Channeling, VLANs, VRFs. Experience configuring multiple authentication methods, including PKI. Commercial vendor selection experience. Experience with Ruckus-based network devices. Experience with VMware NSX‑T.
