Please see Special Instructions for more details. Valencia College is hiring a Part-Time Learning Assistant II (Accounting Tutor) to join the Learning Support team at the West Campus Tutoring Center. In this role, you will support students enrolled in a variety of accounting courses by providing learning-centered tutoring, teaching effective study strategies, and assisting with ungraded coursework. The Accounting Tutor works with both individual students and small groups to promote academic success. Additional Information: This position operates in a Primarily On-Site environment with the possibility of occasional virtual meeting/training components. Provides one on one or small group tutoring to currently enrolled students in a particular discipline. 2. Assesses academic ability of students being tutored using provided measurement instruments. 3. Meets with supervisory staff on a regular scheduled basis to discuss academic progress of students being tutored. 4. Assists supervisor with academic needs assessment. 5. Documents student progress for each session using provided instruments. 6. Implements an academic action plan for each session using provided instruments. 7. Participate in staff development training. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned. Ability to use appropriate learning techniques/strategies to achieve specific learning outcomes. Working Conditions General Working Conditions This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to frequently remaining stationary, moving, reaching, positioning self and occasionally ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-15 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to frequently using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making.
