Growing together.Position SummaryAs a Senior Manager of Software Engineering within UnitedHealthcare Employer & Individual Technology, you will serve as the Technology Leader for an external-facing portal application. You will direct an engineering team of 10-16 software developers to design, build, and deliver key features on time, with high quality, and within budget. In this role, you will apply design thinking to architect reusable, modular solutions, support teams on their transformation journey from traditional Scrum teams to AI Development Life Cycle (AI DLC) pods, and drive the enterprise AI agenda to modernize digital assets and deliver superior digital experiences that elevate constituent NPS.You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.Primary Responsibilities:Direct a team of 10-16 engineers to deliver high-quality web portal features according to committed backlogs, timelines, and budgetsServe as the Technology Leader for external-facing portal applications, applying design thinking to drive architecture decisions and reusable modular solutionsSupport and guide engineering teams on their transformation journey from traditional Scrum teams to AI Development Life Cycle (AI DLC) podsDesign, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges while ensuring responsible and ethical AI practicesChampion AI adoption across the team, establishing AI integration goals, leveraging productivity tools, and fostering continuous innovationBalance stakeholder expectations, market research, program objectives, and technology strategy to optimize user experience and drive constituent NPSOversee security MBOs, tech debt reduction, and DevOps/SRE best practices to accelerate delivery efficiency and maintain platform stabilityMentor, coach, and develop engineering talent, providing technical guidance, resolving roadblocks, and fostering a high-performing team cultureCommunicate effectively across cross-functional teams to align priorities, manage dependencies, and escalate strategic risks to leadershipYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:8+ years of experience developing web applications or enterprise digital portals8+ years of experience in software engineering and coding with Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and modern web frameworks (Angular/React)4+ years of experience with software design and architecture patterns2+ years of experience designing and deploying cloud-native applications2+ years of experience leading, managing, or directing engineering teams2+ years of experience with DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practicesHands-on experience designing or building solutions using machine learning models and/or Generative AIPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in a STEM disciplineExperience as a full-stack developer or enterprise architectHands-on experience with microservices architecture and CI/CD delivery pipelinesExperience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM)Background in healthcare technology or working with sensitive/regulated dataProven expertise with Agile software delivery frameworks (Scrum and/or Kanban)Proven solid cross-functional management and executive-level communication skills*All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter PolicyPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
