Resident Project Representative / Construction Manager

Brown and Caldwell's Detroit, MI office has a full-time opportunity for a Resident Project Representative/Construction Manager to join our growing team. This position is responsible for representing Brown and Caldwell and our clients on construction projects. This requires coordination with representatives from clients, regulatory agencies, construction managers, and contractors.

The successful candidate will need to be able to understand and interpret design documents (technical specifications, construction drawings, etc.), produce daily field documentation such as reports, facilitate progress meetings, be able to communicate with the design team, review pay applications, conduct and document field changes to the design documents, work closely with a diverse, multidisciplinary project team, manage change, be able to perform field work such as construction oversight, and interface with the BC design team, field crews, and clients as needed.

Responsibilities include conducting quality control and assurance inspections and reporting on findings, coordinating and overseeing non-conformance reporting and closeout, coordinating contractor or subcontractor activities and ensuring adherence to project plans, defining project scopes and objectives, monitoring project progress and providing detailed reports to stakeholders, monitoring project schedules and ensuring adherence to timelines, assisting with complex RFIs and providing accurate responses, implementing change management processes and communicating changes effectively, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements, coordination of health and safety requirements to ensure the project meets company safety requirements, overseeing contractor or subcontractor punch list activities to meet project closeout requirements, reporting of subcontractor and vendor budget performance and change management, and flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

Mentorship may include providing mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles.

Skills and competencies include proficiency in construction management and project management techniques and practices, strong skills in managing contractor or subcontractor activities, monitoring progress, and managing schedules, excellent understanding of scope definition and ability to manage changes effectively, excellent written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of contracts, and ability to ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.

Experience typically includes a minimum of 5 years of related work experience in construction management or related field.

Preferred skills and experience include minimum 5 years of related experience preparing design packages and performing construction oversight, construction inspection, and facility start-up, minimum 5 years of increasingly responsible, professional experience in the design and construction administration of municipal infrastructure water and wastewater facilities, thorough working knowledge of the civil, structural, architectural, process and building mechanical and electrical construction and demolition practices involved with major public works project, experience leading and/or assist with commissioning, testing, and start-up of process systems/equipment or facilities for turning over to the owner's personnel, preparing effective and accurate records/documents and all project, permit, and contract closeout documentation, experience conducting daily field investigations, which includes preparing, performing, and/or overseeing the preparation of daily reports and photo documentation of observation of contractor's construction activities at multiple construction sites, ability to access/enter confined space areas to complete necessary inspections of contractor's work, ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified, ability to climb and/or descend stairs (2-3 flights), ladders (up to 24 feet typically), or via other safety measures, to access structures for visual inspection. This includes entering confined space areas, lifting – objects on job sites less than 30 pounds, and a valid driver's license and a good driving record required.

Education includes a bachelor's degree in construction management or related field or equivalent experience is required. Preferred education includes BS degree, in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Management, or related field highly preferred. Candidates without a degree but possessing significant construction management experience will be considered as well. PE is preferable but not required. Possess 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification with a current 8-hour refresher or have the ability to take and pass the training/physical.

Salary range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee's primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
