Assists the Director in ensuring the day-to-day operation of the Laboratory meets the service requirements of the hospital and accrediting agencies; CMS, IDA, CAP, CLIA, DHS. When designated, acts as a general supervisor or medical director designee, as appropriate**Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:**# **Job Specifications:**# **Education:*** Must have a BA/BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, or other related science.**Experience:*** Minimum of completed pre-licensure training in California State Department Public Health accredited training program.* Minimum of five years of general laboratory experience in an acute care hospital with a minimum of one year in a Specialist or Supervisory position preferred**License and Certifications:*** Lic Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS-L) required at hire.* Integrative Agitation Management (IAMTAC) required within 30 days of hire.* Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred at hire.**Prerequisite Skills:*** Ability to work in teams in which all members are mutually accountable* Ability to work collaboratively with team members, hospital staff, patients, and physicians* Willingness and ability to be trained in more than one laboratory discipline* Capable of organizing multiple tasks, using time management skills and attention to detail* Basic computer knowledge with the ability to do data entry and retrieval* Knowledge of blood/body fluid precautions* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills* Ability to read, speak, write, understand and follow English verbal and written instructions* Demonstrated above average technical proficiency in assigned sections* Ability to delegate and direct others in the performance of laboratory procedures* Ability to be constructively critical of established practices and procedures**Primary Customer Served (Age Specific Criteria):*** (X) Infants: Birth up to 1 year* (X) Toddlers: 1 up to 3 years* (X) Preschool Children: 3 up to 6 years* (X) School Age Children: 6 up to 12 years* (X) Adolescents: 12 up to 18 years* (X) Early Adults: 18 up to 45 years* (X) Middle Adults: 45 up to 61 years* (X) Late Adults: 61 up to 80 years* (X) Late, Late Adults: 80 years and upEmployee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care and/or service based on the physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her service group.**Patient Privacy (HIPAA Compliance):**Employees in this position have access to protected health information. This position requires patient health information to perform the functions outlined as part of this position description.# **Duties And Responsibilities:****Essential (Not Modifiable)*** Responsible for ensuring duties of assigned shift or work area are completed, working with other staff to adjust workload as necessary* Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of hospital polices and department policies and procedures. Responsible for performing job within the parameters of these policies and procedures: the following examples are not inclusive of all policies:* Follow all appropriate Blood and Body Fluid Precautions* Comply with laboratory quality control program* Maintaining records* Follow turnaround time policies* Use computer for data entry and information retrieval* Handle and process lab specimens* Perform test procedures specific to assigned section* Check test results for validity* Responsible for maintenance, calibration, and assessing accuracy and reproducibility of instrumentation* Keep equipment and work area clean and safe for use* Participate in competency testing and training* Participate in Proficiency Testing (CAP surveys)* Keep adequate stock of supplies in work area* Responsible for timely completion of any responsibility delegated to another staff member* Responsibility for assuring completion of tasks and monitoring various aspects of assigned department to include:* Operation of the assigned work area* Instruction of others in performance of laboratory procedures* Routine care and maintenance of equipment in assigned work area* Monitoring of preventive maintenance of equipment* Maintain staff schedules as assigned* Development, implementation, and monitoring within assigned department of: *Quality Control Programs, Proficiency Testing Program, Competency Testing Program** Development, review, and revision of procedures for testing and instrumentation* Responsible for recommending policy and operational changes* Evaluate and recommend new equipment purchases* Responsible for assuring all departmental work is maintained, procedures, studies, reports are completed timely and reviewed by Specialist, Director and Medical Director**Secondary (Modifiable)*** Other duties as assigned**Accommodation:**Qualified applicants with disabilities may request reasonable accommodation during the application process by contacting Human Resources at View phone number on click.appcast.io or View email address on click.appcast.io.**C.A.R.E.S.
