Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age, if required for insurance, licensing, or program requirements. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Ability to build positive, meaningful relationships with youth. High school diploma or equivalent. Availability to work Monday through Friday during facility and program hours, with occasional weekend shifts. Experience in community engagement, customer service, youth development, education, recreation, security, behavioral support, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education, volunteer, and professional experience will be considered. TB test clearance completed within the past two years. Preferred Qualifications One or more years of experience working with school-aged youth in an organized or structured setting. Experience supporting elementary and/or middle school-aged youth in an inclusive environment. Training or experience in restorative practices, conflict resolution, and/or de-escalation techniques. Knowledge of youth development principles and best practices. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or another language is a plus. Position Summary Under the direction of the Site Director, the Safety & Support Leader is responsible for promoting a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment throughout the Treasure Island YMCA facility. This position provides routine supervision and monitoring of youth program spaces, health and wellness areas, common areas, restrooms, entrances, and surrounding grounds to ensure the safety and well‑being of youth, members, staff, and community participants. The Safety & Support Leader serves as a visible presence throughout the facility, building positive relationships with participants, providing proactive supervision, addressing safety concerns, and responding to incidents as they arise. The Safety & Support Leader will assist the Site Director and branch leadership team in the areas of behavior management, conflict mediation, member engagement, facility safety, and emergency response. Using restorative practices, de‑escalation strategies, and YMCA values, this position supports positive participant engagement and helps maintain a safe and respectful environment, helps resolve conflicts, and contributes to a culture of respect, belonging, and accountability. The Safety & Support Leader will also support facility operations by conducting routine safety checks, documenting incidents, monitoring access points, and collaborating with staff to ensure YMCA policies and procedures are consistently followed. Job Responsibilities Safety & Security Conduct routine facility and grounds safety walkthroughs. Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas. Respond to and document incidents, accidents, and behavioral concerns. Assist with emergency response procedures and drills. Youth Development Build positive relationships with youth and families. Provide proactive supervision during programs, transitions, and special events. Assist staff with conflict resolution and participant engagement. Health & Wellness Support Maintain a visible presence in wellness spaces to promote a welcoming environment. Support staff in addressing member concerns and facility policy violations. Assist with crowd management during peak usage times. Help ensure participants follow YMCA facility guidelines and safety expectations. Facility Operations Report maintenance, cleanliness, and safety concerns. Assist with opening, closing, and facility readiness checks. Support special events, community gatherings, and branch‑wide activities. Serve as a communication link between program staff, wellness staff, and leadership. Work Environment & Physical Demands The Safety & Support Leader works throughout the Treasure Island YMCA facility, including youth program spaces, health and wellness areas, common areas, outdoor spaces, and surrounding grounds. This position requires frequent walking, standing, and active supervision of participants throughout the day. The role may involve lifting and carrying program equipment, assisting during emergencies, and responding to behavioral, safety, or facility‑related incidents in a fast‑paced environment. This position may require working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
