About the Role

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join their newly created US senior leadership team and play a pivotal role in building a new legal function. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of legal counsel to the senior leadership team and the business, overseeing all legal and regulatory compliance matters, and ensuring the organization's adherence to industry-specific regulations and standards. This role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various legal documents, providing strategic legal advice, and managing disputes, including litigation and arbitration. The General Counsel will also be tasked with developing and implementing policies to minimize legal risks, as well as providing training and updates on legal and compliance matters to internal teams. Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should hold a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and have active bar membership. Extensive knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and regulations within a global organization is essential, with a preference for experience in the shipping, maritime, industrial, or manufacturing industry. The role requires exceptional negotiation and contract management skills, a proven ability to build and manage legal functions, and a confident approach to advising on complex legal issues. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with diverse teams, and experience in managing relationships with external legal counsel is also a key requirement.
