Sr. Electricity Market Optimization Software Engineer

Job Description Summary In this role you will work closely with a team of 8–15 people responsible for enhancing, evolving, and supporting large on‑premise, highly‑available Electricity Market Management System (MMS). The team includes power systems, database, software, and optimization engineers. As a Senior Electricity Market Optimization Software Engineer, you will contribute and lead advanced Power Systems Application software design, development, testing, integration, and tuning to meet project and product commitments. Essential Responsibilities Define, develop, and evolve software in a fast‑paced, agile environment using the latest technologies and infrastructure. Provide domain knowledge and technical leadership to a team of electricity markets application software engineers. Lead and contribute to electricity market application development and ensure software delivery is on schedule, within budget, and exceeds customer expectations. Write documents such as design notes, testing procedures, and other technical documentation. Provide budgetary estimates for new project tasks to project leads and managers. Work with customers throughout the project life cycle to ensure software meets quality standards and functional requirements. Mentor junior team members. Interact with Product Development Team, Customers, Solution Providers, and other cross‑functional teams as required. Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies such as Lean/Agile/XP, CI, software and product security, scalability, documentation practices, refactoring, and testing techniques. Basic Qualifications Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with thesis or related work in power systems OR a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Minimum of four (4) years of experience in Electricity Markets, Security Constrained Unit Commitment, Economic Dispatch using Mixed‑Integer Programming (MIP), or Power System Analysis applications. Desired Characteristics PhD in Electrical Engineering with thesis or related work in power systems, plus at least one year of experience in development or project delivery in the Electricity Market field. Strong understanding of Mixed‑Integer Programming (MIP). Experience with testing and test automation. Proficient with source control management and GitHub. Continuous improvement oriented; actively generates process improvements and champions change initiatives. Highly organized and efficient with the ability to balance competing priorities. Self‑starter comfortable pulling information from multiple resources. Comfortable leading and mentoring newer team members to achieve business goals. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with customers and cross‑functional teams. Eligibility Requirements Legal authorization to work in the United States. Willingness to travel 10–20% of the time. Willingness to work out of an office located in Bothell, WA, if required. Pay range: $127,880.00 to $191,820.00, with geographic differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% in certain areas. Bonus: discretionary annual bonus.
