Leadership Fellows Non-Tenure Track Faculty

Montana State University seeks qualified individuals to provide non-tenurable level instruction and/or related functions. Instructors are needed to teach classes depending upon need and available funding. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and will be maintained in pool for two years. After two years, candidates will be notified to re-submit materials for continued consideration.

The Leadership Fellows Certificate Program seeks instructors with experience and/or capacities in the following areas: experiential instruction, lived leadership experience, leadership theory, innovative and best practices in teaching in a seminar, small classroom format (<20 students), leadership coaching, personal development, and working with learners in the young adult age group.

Salary - Entry salary is calculated in workload units (WLUs) and is equivalent to $2,200 per 1 semester credit. Finalized salary will be based on the level of education, related experience, and total WLUs per semester.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include: Teaching on campus in a seminar class model or online courses Student evaluation via grades & feedback Advising, evaluating and assisting students Curriculum and/or course development Design input in support of program and curriculum design and improvement

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Academic or professional experience in leadership. Minimum master's degree is needed to apply. Experience in organizational leadership may also replace advanced degree on a case-to-case basis.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

Demonstrated experience teaching interdisciplinary courses. Ability to teach in small-group seminar model with an emphasis on practical and applied learning models. Demonstrated knowledge of college student development. Understanding of syllabus creation and usage in higher education.

The Successful Candidate Will

Work professionally and effectively with individuals and groups. Possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. Have the ability to build and manage curriculum and grading in MSU's CANVAS online teaching platform.

The Program

The Leadership Fellows certificate is an interdisciplinary undergraduate 16-credit "secondary degree" program. The program focuses on building student capacity and skills in essential high-order leadership behaviors through small-group seminars and experiential learning models. The program has a three-pronged focus tied to leadership of self, leadership in teams and leadership in society. Student leadership core competencies include self-awareness, communication, learning agility, and influence. Along with these, the program focuses on a conflict as generative model, leadership as relational, dialogue and deep listening, and the cultivating the ability as leaders to generate futures that wouldn't have otherwise existed.

The Department

University Studies is the academic home for exploring students (those who want to explore the degrees and majors offered at MSU prior to declaring), as well as Pre-Med students, Pre-Law students, and the Leadership Certificate. We teach approximately 45 sections of US101US each academic year, along with sections of COMX111US Intro to Public Speaking, Leadership courses, and several additional 1-credit exploratory and success courses. In University Studies, we seek to help students develop a connection to MSU, to fellow students, and to the broader community. Through personalized academic advising and engaging instruction, we empower students to explore their interests, clarify their goals, and develop the intellectual skills needed to navigate the opportunities and responsibilities of college life.
