Building Inspectors II Help build a better, safer future for business and residents in one of the largest, most diverse counties in the U.S. San Bernardino County’s Land Use Services Department is looking for Building Inspectors II to join a dynamic team dedicated to outstanding service, innovation, and teamwork. Responsibilities: Building Inspectors enforce compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, and disabled access codes, ordinances, and regulations concerning residential, commercial, and industrial projects under construction, including new, altered, repaired, and completed structures. They issue notices of correction and violation, and protect the public’s health, safety, and property. Eligibility Candidates must meet ONE (1) of the Certification options AND ONE (1) of the Experience options in order to qualify. Certification Options Option 1: Possession of ICC certification (or equivalent) in the California Building Code in one of the following inspector certificates: Residential Building, Residential Plumbing, Residential Electrical, or Residential Mechanical. Option 2: Possession of ICC certification (or equivalent) as a California Commercial Building Inspector. Experience Options Option 1: One (1) year full‑time equivalent experience in a public Building and Safety agency as a residential or commercial building inspector, where the primary duty is inspecting building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical projects for compliance with nationally recognized model codes and applicable state and federal regulations, and having the authority to issue notices of correction and violation. Option 2: Two (2) years of full‑time equivalent experience complying with public agencies on approved plans in a construction trade or closely related field. Conditions of Employment Pre‑Employment Process: Must pass a background check including fingerprinting and a medical exam. Certification: Must maintain certification in the appropriate field from a recognized state, national, or international association as determined by the County Building Official. Must complete a minimum of 45 hours of continuing education every 3 years. License: Valid California Class C driver license required. Mileage reimbursement and proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Physical: May require frequent climbing, kneeling, crawling, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds; working on rough, uneven, rocky, or slippery surfaces; and regularly working at heights over ten (10) feet. Sponsorship: San Bernardino County cannot consider candidates who require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.
