About the Position

Job Title: RN - MedSurg/Tele Profession: RN Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience License: RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; ONS preferred but not required Must-Have: - Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills - Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips - General medical/surgical skillset - IV start skills - Experience with blood products - Wound care/dressing changes Description: This position requires a registered nurse with a focus on MedSurg/Tele. The unit has a total of 34 beds with an average census of 32 plus 3 surge rooms. Patient ratios for nurses are 1:5 during the day and 1:6 at night, with critical surge ratios of 1:7-8. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) have a ratio of 1:12 for both days and nights. Patient types and common diagnoses include ESRD, CHF, pneumonia, sickle cell crisis, diabetes/DKA, wounds, and acute/chronic renal failure. The majority of patients are medical, with few surgical patients. Starting in Spring 2026, the unit will also care for hematology/oncology patients. Travelers will not need chemotherapy certification and will not administer chemotherapy but must be comfortable caring for these patients. Support within the department includes CNAs for patient care, receptionists, charge nurses, 24/7 IV/VAT team, and dedicated pharmacists. Telemetry monitoring is available with appropriate technology and equipment. The culture of the unit is welcoming and promotes psychological safety and fairness. Travelers may be required to float within the region and scope of practice. Floating mid-shift will be compensated for travel time between facilities.
