Job Title AVP, Team Manager – GL BI and PD Location Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Hartford, New York, Scottsdale Job Type & Band Permanent, Band: II Reporting To Claims Director, Property & Casualty Role Overview The AVP Team Manager – General Liability leads a Claims organization, supporting the Claims Director of Property & Casualty. This leadership role focuses on developing, managing, and motivating a high‑performing team of Claims professionals while ensuring efficient claims handling, excellent service, and alignment with Hiscox’s KPIs. Key Responsibilities Effectively manage claims volume through proper staffing and active oversight of new, reopened, and complex claims. Implement and execute Hiscox’s Best Practices, including reserve setting, coverage analysis, and claim‑handling strategy. Drive KPI compliance and adherence to Best Practices via managerial diary reviews and file audits. Approve coverage correspondence, especially coverage denials and complex coverage issues. Lead litigation management and strategy within the team and across the broader Claims organization. Identify, assess, and elevate key issues, trends, and emerging risks to senior claims management. Build collaborative relationships with claims leadership and other business areas. Recruit, train, motivate, and coach employees, providing ongoing performance feedback and development opportunities. Act as the escalation point for customer and broker concerns, facilitating efficient resolution. Assist the Claims Director in preparing and presenting reserve analysis, claims trends, and the feedback loop with Underwriting and Actuarial teams. Required Skills and Experience At least 10 years of claim handling experience; a JD with ABA accreditation may be considered additional experience. 5+ years in Commercial General Liability claims, including Bodily Injury and 3rd Party Property Damage; experience with Construction Defect and/or New York Labor Law is a plus. 4+ years in Claims management. Expert knowledge of claims practices, coverage analysis, litigation management, and negotiation. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills. Proficiency in building engagement, rapport, and relationships. Advanced analytical skills for coverage evaluation and claim‑handling strategy execution. Demonstrated efforts to enhance product innovation, improve claims processes, or deepen business understanding. Capability to manage through uncertainty or change, addressing challenges with solutions. Experience partnering with internal and external stakeholders (Actuary, Underwriting, Legal, Risk Control). Dedication to excellent customer service. Ability to manage team workload through hiring, training, mentoring, and oversight. Insurance adjuster license(s) or willingness to obtain them.
