Student Respiratory Therapist

Responsibilities The Respiratory Therapy Student shall be under the direction of a licensed Respiratory Therapist. This individual shall be responsible to provide respiratory care and services to patients. Duties and responsibilities are limited to those within the scope of practice of an unlicensed respiratory therapist acting under the direction of a licensed respiratory therapist, to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care. This position may have additional duties assigned that are within the scope of the role. Assist with assessments, administer treatments (oxygen, nebulizers), monitor vitals, and learn life support procedures. Set up, clean, maintain, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, and manage medical gas cylinders. Support licensed therapists, nurses, and physicians in developing and implementing care plans. Maintain a clean, safe clinical environment and restock supplies. Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards Regular and prompt attendance Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required Related duties as assigned Additional Information Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits. Qualifications Must qualify for student status by the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Therapy Required OR be a recent graduate with a temporary license from the Alabama State Board of Respiratory Care. Preferred Prior experience in a healthcare setting Preferred Temporary license if applicable Required BCLS - Basic Life Support Required Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
