SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Location: Glendale

Job Type: Full-time, Contract

Salary Range: $48,000-55,000 per year

How You Will Make a Difference at Sun Valley Academy

As the School Counselor, you will be responsible for providing individuals with social, emotional and behavioral counseling in a school setting. The School Counselor will assist students in all grades at the South Mountain campus. You will also:

• Provide a range of psychological services including class, group, and individual counseling
• Collaborate with teachers and parents on early identification and intervention of student's academic and social/emotional needs.
• Assist students in removing barriers to learning and developing skills and behaviors critical for academic achievement.
• Assess students' abilities, interest, and achievements to help them make decisions about their future.
• Provide professional assistance and support to a student or small group of students during times of transition, heightened stress, critical change or other situations impeding student success.
• Recognize and respond to student mental health needs and assist students and families seeking resources.
• Share strategies supporting student achievement with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations.
• Collaboration with educators, parents and the community to support student achievement.
• Provide support to students and families needing school or community resources for additional assistance and information.
• Contribute to the development of social-behavioral elements of the IEP process.
• When applicable, participate in Leadership team meetings to provide updates about important relevant topics/issues.
• Assist in crisis intervention, e.g., suicide assessment, threat to other assessments.
• Participate on the crisis response team.
• Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree in Education in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work
• Current and active Arizona School Counseling Certification
• Prior experience in a K-8 setting
• Experience working with an ethnically diverse urban population

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience delivering counseling services in a school setting
• Clinical or license to deliver therapy/counseling services
• Bilingual skills
