Everglades Youth Academy in Okeechobee, Florida, is a secure 60-bed Youth Academy serving males ages 13 to 17, providing trauma-informed mental health and substance abuse treatment. The program combines clinical therapy, education, restorative justice, therapeutic recreation, and life skills training. Youth typically remain in care based on individualized treatment outcomes, participating in individual, family, and group therapy; victim impact awareness; vocational preparation; and enrichment activities such as art, music, and recreation. You will collaborate closely with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure each youth receives individualized, holistic care that promotes both physical and emotional well-being.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister prescribed medications and ensure accurate documentationTriage illness and injuries each shift, determine medical priority, and treat within scope of practiceMonitor and document vital signs, medical progress, and health outcomesConduct required health screenings and maintain immunization complianceEducate youth and staff on health topics, including universal precautions and communicable disease preventionProvide or coordinate CPR, first aid, and other medical training for staff as requiredMaintain controlled drug records and complete shift-to-shift medication countsMonitor and replenish health/first aid supplies, including AED and emergency kitsParticipate in treatment team meetings to support interdisciplinary care planningEnsure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and state healthcare regulationsPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsRequired:Active and unrestricted RN license in the State of FloridaAt least 2 years of professional nursing experienceCPR certificationAbility to pass background check and drug screeningPreferred:Experience working with youth in residential, behavioral health, or correctional settingsPhysical DemandsMust be in good physical health and emotionally stableAble to actively engage with youth, participate in physical interventions, and transport youth or staff as neededMust be free of communicable diseases as defined by the stateMust pass evaluation of physical techniques and certification examsOther RequirementsValid state driver's licenseMust meet state criminal background check requirementsFlexibility to work variable hours as neededApply TodayMake a difference with us.
