Program Manager, Al Lopez Academy Alliance

SUMMARY

Oversees and manages the organization, administration, budget monitoring, periodic review, planning, development, implementation, and general effectiveness of collegewide programs and services for students who are first‑generation college students and/or bilingual (English/Spanish).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees and manages all operational aspects of the Al Lopez Academic Alliance collegewide, including programs and services to support student success for first‑generation students and/or students who will benefit from bilingual student support (English/Spanish). Monitors the departmental budget and use of funds; effectively plans for expenses and authorizes expenditures. Supervises staff and student interns/student employees; coordinating the search process for new hires, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and development of employees. Provides direct assistance to first‑generation students and/or bilingual students (English/Spanish) related to navigating college processes (e.g., course registration and accessing support services). Serves as a liaison between the College and external stakeholders supporting the Al Lopez Academic Alliance. Assists other program staff with marketing of specific College programs to high school students and adults who are bilingual. Develops and maintains effective communication with prospective students, current students, graduates, faculty, and community members who interact through the Al Lopez Academic Alliance. Coordinates the selection of student scholarship recipients and collegewide recognition events for students participating in the Al Lopez Academic Alliance in collaboration with Cuyahoga Community College Foundation and Student Financial Aid and Scholarships. Coordinates the speaker selection process with faculty for the Al Lopez Academic Alliance speaker series events for current students. Participates in Student Affairs Leadership Meetings, staff retreats, and student retention strategies. Implements retention strategies that support students in their academic, personal and career goals. Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Significant related experience may substitute for education. Minimum of five (5) years of related full‑time experience in higher education. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish), both spoken and written. Demonstrated experience supervising, planning, assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality of the work of others. Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department. Demonstrated experience forecasting, planning, maintaining, preparing, and monitoring a business area’s budget. Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem‑solving methods in a variety of situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Possess comprehensive knowledge of higher education recruitment and/or retention practices. Demonstrated intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, or equivalent. Ability to independently set goals and determine best course of action that are consistent with the College, division, and campus goals and objectives. Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills related to students, colleagues, and community members. Possess strong organizational, time‑management skills, and is results‑oriented. Possess strong commitment to providing excellent customer service. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and changing work environment requiring flexibility and teamwork. Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity. Ability to collaborate, negotiate, and resolve conflicts on projects and within teams. Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow, quality, and efficiency related to student issue resolution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in counseling, student affairs, education, and business administration. Experience with Banner student information system. Demonstrated ability to recruit both students and staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

The work will require the employee to have transportation to various College locations. The work will require the ability to provide speeches and presentations to small and large audiences. The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. There may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

Must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of the work location/campus.

TARGET STARTING SALARY RANGE

Target Starting Salary Range: $63,000 to $73,000. The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirements.
