Job Title: Press Brake Operator Job Description
This role operates press brake machinery in a clean, fast-paced metal fabrication shop, working closely with other operators to produce high-quality sheet metal components. You will set up, run, and adjust press brakes, interpret blueprints, and ensure all parts meet production and quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient work area.
Responsibilities- Set up and operate press brake machines to bend, form, and fabricate sheet metal components according to specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine material requirements, dimensions, and machine settings.
- Perform machine setups, including selecting appropriate tooling, adjusting back gauges, and programming or adjusting machine controls.
- Measure and inspect parts using tape measures and other hand tools to verify dimensions and ensure parts meet quality and tolerance requirements.
- Monitor production runs, make necessary adjustments to equipment, and troubleshoot basic mechanical issues to maintain consistent output.
- Handle sheet metal and fabricated parts by pushing, pulling, and carrying materials up to and over 50 pounds as needed.
- Maintain a steady work pace while standing on your feet for extended periods, typically 10 or more hours per shift.
- Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to perform minor maintenance, adjustments, and changeovers on press brakes and related equipment.
- Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in the shop.
- Collaborate with other operators and team members on the shift to meet production goals and support smooth workflow.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections during and after production to identify defects and ensure consistent quality.
- Document production information as required, such as counts, part numbers, and any issues encountered during the shift.
- Proven experience operating press brake machines in a sheet metal or fabrication environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings accurately.
- Demonstrated experience with machine operation and production work in a manufacturing or metal shop setting.
- Capability to perform press brake setups, including tooling changes and machine adjustments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with mechanical equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to use a tape measure accurately and perform basic measurements and calculations.
- Physical ability to stand on your feet for 10 or more hours per shift.
- Physical ability to push, pull, and carry materials weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Attention to detail for inspection and quality checks throughout the production process.
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and meet production targets.
- Class A press brake operators typically bring 5+ years of experience.
- Class B press brake operators typically bring 3+ years of experience.
- Class C press brake operators typically bring 1+ years of experience.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication and working in a smaller machine or metal shop environment.
- Background in production and inspection processes within a manufacturing setting.
- Comfort working closely with a team where collaboration and communication are important.

Work EnvironmentYou work in a clean, smaller machine and metal shop environment with approximately 40 people on shift, including office personnel. The atmosphere is friendly and familiar, with team members on a first-name basis. The shop runs at a quick pace, and the machines are original to the building, providing a consistent and well-understood setup for production. You use press brakes, hand tools, tape measures, and other basic equipment to perform your work. The role follows a four-day workweek with two primary shifts: a first shift from Monday to Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and a second shift from Monday to Thursday, 2:45 p.m. to 12:45 a.m.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
