Job Description




Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Network Test Engineer to lead testing and qualification for our network devices and infrastructure. The ideal candidate will design, implement, and execute comprehensive test plans for carrier-grade networking equipment, ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability.







Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and execute comprehensive test plans for networking equipment and features.
- Set up, configure, and troubleshoot complex multi-vendor networking lab environments that mimic live networks.
- Validate performance, scalability, and reliability of service provider networking solutions.
- Perform traffic generation and analysis using tools such as Ixia/Keysight and OTDR.
- Collaborate closely with Network Engineering, QA, and operations teams to identify, debug, and resolve complex issues.
- Document test cases, results, and defects with high clarity and detail.







Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in Carrier-grade telecom equipment testing and qualification including router and switches
- Proven experience with wireless technologies, focusing on mmWave and E-band point-to-point technologies
- Solid understanding of key radio frequency performance indicators including Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR), Bit Error Rate (BER), and Receive Signal Level (RSL)
- Strong hands-on knowledge of L2/L3 protocols: Ethernet, VLANs, IP, MPLS, BGP, QoS
- Demonstrated ability to set up, configure, and troubleshoot complex, large-scale network environments across multi-vendor platforms.
- Hands-on experience with traffic generators and analyzers (e.g., Ixia/Keysight, OTDR).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- PON testing experience highly desirable







Additional Skills (Nice to Have)
- Proficiency in Python for test automation (Pytest or similar frameworks).
- Working knowledge of ESM, OLT, PON, and ONT testing.
- Knowledge of Linux-based test environments and shell scripting.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and test integration.
- Familiarity with OSS and BSS system.







Key Pointers

1. Carrier-grade equipment testing - 7+ years testing/qualifying carrier-grade routers, switches, or similar telecom infrastructure (not enterprise/consumer gear).
2. mmWave & E-band point-to-point - hands-on experience with PtP wireless radio links specifically, not general 5G/cellular RF.
3. RF KPIs - practical, hands-on measurement of SNR, BER, and RSL against a link budget.
4. L2/L3 protocol testing - Ethernet, VLANs, IP, MPLS, BGP, QoS - actually configuring/validating these on network gear.
5. Multi-vendor lab build-out - setting up, cabling, and troubleshooting labs that mirror live carrier networks.
6. Traffic generation & analysis - Ixia/Keysight specifically, plus OTDR for fiber link testing.
7. PON testing (highly desirable) - OLT/ONT bring-up and validation.







Nice-to-have differentiators: Python test automation (Pytest), Linux/shell scripting, CI/CD integration, OSS/BSS familiarity.

2. "Have you personally tested point-to-point mmWave or E-band radio links? What specifically did you measure - RSL, SNR, BER - and against what link budget?"
3. "Is your day-to-day work test & qualification in a lab, or is it more RF design/planning, network operations/support, or device/chipset-level testing?"
4. "Which L2/L3 protocols have you configured and validated yourself - Ethernet, VLANs, IP, MPLS, BGP, QoS? Can you give a specific example of a test scenario you ran?"
5. "What traffic generation tools have you used hands-on - Ixia, Keysight, other? How recently, and on what kind of equipment?"
6. "Have you set up or troubleshot a multi-vendor lab environment from scratch - cabling, calibration, topology build? Which vendors?"
7. "Do you have any OTDR or fiber-link testing experience? Walk me through what you'd look for in an OTDR trace to isolate a fault."
8. "Have you worked with PON access equipment - OLT or ONT bring-up and validation? If not directly, any adjacent fiber-access testing?"
9. "A router is stable at 100 BGP peers and 10K routes but becomes unstable at 1,000 peers and 1M routes. How would you design a scalability test to identify the system's limits, and which metrics would you monitor?"
10. "A router must maintain service when one uplink fails. How would you test redundancy, failover, and route convergence? What pass/fail criteria would you define?"
11. "Do you script your own test automation - Python/Pytest, Robot Framework, or similar? Is it integrated into CI/CD (Jenkins, GitLab)? Walk me through device access, failure handling, and how you ensure a failed test doesn't leave lab devices unusable."
12. "Are you comfortable in a Linux-based test environment - any shell scripting?"
