Summary All porters employed by Athens Services are responsible for all assigned waste collection. It is expected that every porter employee will conduct himself or herself in a professional manner at all times and perform all duties as assigned in a safe manner. The primary duty of all porters is to perform manual cleaning assignments. Porters are responsible for the collection and hand loading of commercial, residential, and city waste. Porters must also be able to communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, and supervisors. Job Responsibilities Assisting in picking up and transporting waste safely, according to all federal, state and local rules and regulations. Manual cleaning of trucks, equipment, and sites, including sweeping, picking up litter, pressure washing, graffiti removal, using backpack blowers, and maintaining bus stops. Picking up specified waste from each customer site scheduled for the day. Providing the highest level of customer service to assigned accounts on a daily basis. Communicating any issues to the Operations Manager, Route Supervisor, or Dispatcher for resolution, including re‑routes, adjustments in container sizes, and training needs. Ensuring waste, supplies, and material handling equipment is secured before operating the vehicle on public highways. Respecting the property of all residential, commercial, and city customers. Cleaning the inside and exterior of trucks and support equipment on a regular basis and reporting any observed maintenance problems. Working safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while loading and unloading vehicles. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. Valid Class C Driver's License with an acceptable driver record. Exceptional communication skills. Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (English/Spanish). Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, or transportation industry. Physical/Environmental Demands Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, and smelling continuously. Problem solving, oral and written communication, analytical ability, concentration, and interpersonal abilities continuously. Eye‑hand coordination, handling, and wrist motion continuously. Bending, reaching, stretching, frequently, and lifting up to 50 pounds frequently. Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, and noise continuously.
