School Based behavioral health liaison therapist (Hohenwald)

SUMMARY OF POSITION As a school-based behavioral health liaison, you will provide face-to-face consultation with classroom teachers to assist them in creating positive, trauma-informed classroom environments and to support the development of effective, trauma-informed behavior responses for students at risk of emotional or behavioral problems, substance use disorders, or serious emotional disturbance. Training and education regarding childhood mental health and trauma-informed classroom responses will also be incorporated to promote a healthy teaching environment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Provide face-to-face consultation with classroom teachers to assist in creating a positive, trauma-informed classroom and to develop effective trauma-informed behavior responses. Provide at least one face-to-face training per year to LEA personnel on various mental health and substance abuse prevention topics. Assist in the development of school-wide mental health initiatives and universal prevention strategies. Provide liaison services, including communication between the school and the child's family, to build home‑school partnerships. This includes supporting the IEP process, alternative school placement, and the development of trauma-informed support plans. Give information and support for school personnel in navigating local behavioral health resources and accessing crisis services. Maintain logs, tracking documents, and other tools needed to monitor service provision; these will be reviewed during the annual monitoring visit. Offer individual student consultations or interventions to build coping and de‑escalation skills, and conduct at least three psycho‑education group activities per year covering topics such as mental health disorders, substance use risk, coping strategies, and other requested content. Address specific mental health or behavioral issues through individual, group, and/or family therapy services. Formulate diagnoses following intake assessment and create/update treatment plans per policy. Maintain timely and accurate documentation—including treatment plans, progress notes, and reports—to comply with grant and organizational requirements. Comply with bi‑annual performance evaluation requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Proficiency in trauma‑informed practices. Ability to provide strength‑based and client‑centered care. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with school staff, students, and families. QUALIFICATIONS Education Level Master’s degree required in Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, or an MH Counseling specialization. License‑eligible in the respective discipline preferred. Alternatively, a Master’s degree in a related field with at least 24 graduate‑level semester hours in psychology, social work, counseling, or related coursework; along with relevant clinical experience, assessment, DSM usage, and a behavioral health internship. Years of Experience Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing treatment to individuals with mental health disorders; substance use disorder experience preferred. Internship experience may satisfy the minimum requirement for recent graduates. Certification/Licensure N/A. Valid TN Driver’s license required.
