This role lives the Partnership pillar every day.Fleet ManagerThe Fleet Manager will provide leadership and direction to the personnel domiciled at a terminal of approximately 1 to 25 employees and contractors who support, coordinate and deliver a large volume of vehicles per year. This role is accountable for the terminal’s revenue, day-to-day operations, staff management, customer communication and satisfaction, safety and regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance and inventory. The position will work closely with regional and corporate leaders, customers, vendors, professional car haulers, and other internal employees. All functions of this position are critical for the company to maintain a competitive edge and maximize profitability.Job DutiesEnsure proper staffing of terminal to fulfill all necessary workDirect the duties of the staff and supervision of the terminalOperate terminal efficiently by analyzing operating costs, equipment utilization, and revenueEnsure the efficient and on-time delivery of freight; effectively problem solve customer and delivery issuesBuild and maintain positive and profitable customer and vendor relationshipsRespond to emergency situationsAdvocate and maintain a strong commitment to safety; oversee all safety requirements for terminal including Hours-Of-Service and all DOT requirements, worker injury reports, and accidentsOversee the recruiting, hiring, performance management, goal setting, disciplining and coaching of all drivers and employees at the terminalGather and disseminate information to regional and corporate leadership as it relates to staffing, inventory, budget, revenue and operational risksEstablish local procedures to ensure the safety and productivity of all stakeholdersEnsure all purchasing and accounts payables are handled in accordance with company policyEnsure all company and OO equipment meet regularly scheduled PM intervals to help ensure maint costs stay within monthly budget.Review all CSA violations and discipline drivers in accordance with standard directives from the Safety Dept and/or Regional ManagerEnsure all OEM inventories are accurately reflected in OVISS, and promptly resolve any discrepancies.Actively seek means of growing revenues or increasing operational efficiencies to improve profitability of the terminal and to grow the business in size and scopeSkills RequiredLeadership and negotiation skillsPeople management skillsProcess improvement skillsStrong analytical, diagnostic and problem solving skillsProficient or advanced computer skills; ability to use window based software to enter order informationSafety-centered, positive work ethicAbility to create and maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner which facilitates the success of business operations in order to meet company demands and expectationsAbility to evaluate alternatives in order to make the best overall decisions based on KPI metrics, service requirements, economical factors, customer relations, and driver needsAbility to assist in creation and adherence to financial budgetAbility to communicate effectively at all levels of organizationAbility to remain calm and professional in a stressful environmentQualificationsCollege Degree with at least one (1) year of management experience in the transportation industry preferred, or 3-5 years of transportation leadership experienceStrong skill base and comfort with technology including Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, and routing or dispatching systems.Knowledge of DOT & FMCSA RegulationsLocation: Brighton, MI (this is not a hybrid role)United Road is proud to offer our full-time employees best-in-class benefits designed to support your health, well-being, and financial security.
