This is a full-time, in-office position. 

This position requires you to work on site at one of our facilities located throughout Broward County.

This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment. OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This OPS position is for the Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) Coordinator that will facilitate OFR Committee activities conducted for the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Overdose Data to Action: Local (OD2A-L) Grant at the Florida Department of Health in Broward County.

This position will coordinate the OFR Committee and will be responsible for facilitating all functions and activities related to the OFR process. The OFR Committee is composed of representatives from local and state government agencies as well as community partners. The purpose of the OFR Committee is to review individual fatal overdose cases to develop an understanding of causes and incidences of drug overdoses in the county and develop plans for and recommend changes to prevent drug overdose deaths. The OFR Coordinator will review programmatic data to select cases for review. For each case selected, the incumbent will collaborate with community partners to compile and analyze data to be presented and reviewed at the monthly meetings.

This position will schedule and plan all monthly OFR Committee meetings and participate in multidisciplinary meetings to implement OFR Committee recommendations, including the OFR Committee and subcommittees. The incumbent will conduct research on recommendations made in the meetings, developing and maintaining a strategic plan for recommendation implementation and working with other community partners to implement selected recommendations. The incumbent will complete all required reports, develop meeting minutes, develop and deliver presentations, and secure presenters as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for collecting, interpreting and analyzing data to improve substance use prevention programming to support the OFR Committee and the Overdose Prevention program.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

•  Data Collection Instruments - Create and revise data collection instruments.
•  Data Quality Assurance - Conduct REDCap data quality assurance for Medical Examiner record abstraction.
•  Broward County Office of the Medical Examiner and Trauma Services (OMETS) Record Abstraction - Abstract overdose decedent data from OMETS into REDCap.
• Submit fatal overdose data to SUDORS.

 Overdose Fatality Review Committee (Monthly Cycle) 

•  Ensure public notice for each OFR meeting.
•  Create and distribute the OFR meeting agenda.
•  Develop pre‑fatality scripts using hospital abstraction data for each decedent.
• Abstract OMETS record data including incident summaries, scene findings, autopsy reports, toxicology, and next‑of‑kin interviews.
•  Contact community partners to confirm prior interactions with each decedent. - Aggregate overdose fatality data and create quarterly graphs.
•  Compile all case materials into a PowerPoint presentation.
•  Weekly and Monthly Performance Reports - Report weekly and monthly the number of OMETS case abstractions. 
•  Report monthly the number of decedents reviewed at OFR meetings.
•  Develop and deliver presentations on overdose mortality surveillance findings to internal and external stakeholders. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

• Demonstrated understanding of overdose trends, contributing factors, and evidence‑based prevention and harm‑reduction strategies.
• Ability to abstract, validate, interpret, and synthesize fatality review data from multiple systems with high accuracy.
• Ability to create clear, data‑driven presentations and lead large multidisciplinary meetings to consensus.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across public health, public safety, behavioral health, and community partners.
• Ability to produce concise, high‑quality reports, case summaries, recommendations, and meeting documentation.
• Ability to manage day‑to‑day program activities, timelines, and grant deliverables with minimal supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Possess a valid driver's license, free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and willing to drive to multiple sites as required by program needs.
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, health care administration, behavioral health, social work, psychology or a related field. 
3. Two (2) or more years of professional experience in overdose prevention strategies. 
4. Two (2) or more years of professional experience in developing presentations and facilitating large meetings with various stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. One (1) or more years of professional experience conducting epidemiological fatality review and surveillance 
2. One (1) or more years of professional experience in behavioral health, substance use, public health promotion or prevention, particularly in overdose prevention or related field. 
3. One (1) or more years of professional experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with State, federal and private industry health care officials, public safety/public health, employees and the general public.
